Without pulling the drive apart my guess is the NEC and the Toshiba don't contain mtk chipset therefore mtkflash will not work. DB have told me that the ide/sata comms by mtkflash gains access to the prom by bypassing the embedded 8051 micro a sort of state machine....they would not elaborate any further. This why one can flash a blank prom as the cpu is disabled. Conversely there is no equivalent program like MTKflash for the MN103. Thats why kev's tut warns against rewriting all of the prom as this will clag the f/w
you lost me at prom, i got my Toshibia open now Where exactly do i look and what im i looking for?

i bought a sy-via-150r from newegg.com
this is what i get if power up my pc with the 360 dvdrom connected to the pc then disconnect and reconnect during the detect screen. it will hang after the info is displayed.
raid none define none raid serial_ch1 master: tsstcorpdvd-rom tsh943a press key into user window!
if i wait till the dos prompt to turn on or connect the xbox 360 dvdrom to the pc mtkflash will never detect the 360 dvdrom...
from what i can tell i think i need a sata device other than my 360 dvdrom hooked up first to keep my sata card active till i can get to the dos prompt

Make sure your Sata is set to IDE not Raid. Hot swapping has worked for many, but its not good for the drives.

When you enable sata in your bios settings make sure it is set to IDE, you do not need the device detected to do this.

If no device is attached during boot, the controller bootrom will not appear, it's ok like this, but this doesn't mean the controller is inactive, go on and boot floppy with dos, connect the TS drive, start mtkflash and it should work (at least for me and other users). Original mtkflash will not work, you have to hexedit it, have you done? Sure? This should match all kind of VIA controllers http://rapidshare.de/files/22716234/mtk183c_VIA.rar.html

acem77, I see what you are trying to say. Give Geremia's idea a try. If it does not work for you then maybe you can use the 360 HD as a recognizable device to change your bios settings. Then hook up your sammy drive and try the hex edited mtkflash.

This has been bugging me all night last night. First a picture of my mobo I have an hp a752n computer as you can see I have an intel ich6 (ich6p as detected by mtkflash) however in microsoft info the only thing I am seeing is an Ultra ata port instead of sata. The bios picks up fine, and in fact I used the 360 to boot a dos boot disc, however mtkflash just hangs. I've edited the fields in mtkflash to that of the Uata values and it's still a no go.

make sure the sata port is actually activated, and try the trick with hooking up another sata device. it may disable the sata port cause it can't find a valid drive on it.

Here's the weird thing the HD is connected only via Sata, the weird thing is that when I run mtk with the IDE channels disconnected, it (mtk) simply says that drives are found, with no options. If I have the ide cdrom connected I get a choice of slave or master in ich6p however it will hang and when I press escape i get error 51 should be 70 code. Frustration has set it big time, luckily I have a 46d lg-ht 360 waiting for it's turn tomorrow.
