Nice to see your good results btw, i tested mtkflash with hotswapped TS drive with blanked flash and it flashed successfully. @zenofex: Maybe problems can occur when the flash contain a crashing code that freezes the drive on powerup, this case you can try to desolder R408 (the 0 value resistor on flash VCC) and put a switch to OFF, then poweron the drive, then switch ON the flash VCC just prior to use mtkflash. This way the drive should not boot and crash, it should just start and boot nothing, just like in a situation of an empty flash.

Just more testing with my VIA chipset motherboard and i can read/write (write also empty flash) without hotswapping:
simply go to BIOS and disable the SATA BOOTROM, this way the sata controller doesn't initializes the drives attached on boot, but the controller is still enabled. Then mtkflash R /M mydump.bin or if you like mtkflash R /SATA /M mydump.bin , anyway the drive is found also with an empty flash.
note: with sata bootrom enabled, the TS drive doesn't respond the inquiry command as espected, so the sata controller seems to disable himself, that's why mtkflash can't access sata ports.

this is my problem with my soyo board (kt600) i cant disable the bootrom, and the bios doesnt recognize the samsung drive on the sata controller... guess i am going to get a sata hd or dvd and do the swap. many thanks to you and bluecop for all the information you have posted

hrm.. can't get it to work.. it seems in order to even show the drive to swap, it HAS to be an mtek chipset drive.. only one I got is my samsung from the xbox 1, but that can't be set to master and my sata adapter apparently can't handle that.
edit: some info: I'm using an nf7-s2g which shows the sata ports as IDE ports, but it seems mktflash can't handle that. the bootdisk's dvdrom driver doesn't show any drives on that port either.. but even if I have two detected drives (on the normal IDE ports), it will auto-select the xbox 1 samsung drive without ever asking me, and when there's no mtek chipset drive hooked up, just other chipsets, it will say "no drive detected".

if you have a sata port on the mobo use the hdd hotswap method that bluecop posted
works for me every time
just make sure to unplug the power from the dvdrom before starting your computer

I don't have nforce chipset to test, anyway i can tell you that mtkflash detects also non mediatek drives, like my pioneer 109. try to connect directly the TS-H943 to sata port, but only after booting in real dos. (btw, do you use dvd bootdisk? try floppy)

it didn't detect the toshiba drive I also have hooked up, or the pioneer a04 I tried. I had connected it directly to SATA too, no change.. and yes, I am in real DOS, using a bootcd (it uses floppy emulation, basically a floppy image on CD).. I have no floppy drive, but there's no reason this should make a difference.

Hi all, I'm trying to dump my TS-H943A but no way to get it working... this is what I did: I had to remap my sata port as P-ata in my Asus P5LD2. (If I let it like sata I get no drive choice) I started pc in dos mode ( only my hd sata connected) then I hotswapped with dvd360 Then I powered up my 360 (I also tried to power up my 360 before hotswapping) I ran mtkflash r /m dump.bin I got this message: MTKFLASH........ Drive Scaned: 1: IDE Pri. Master 2: IDE Pri. SLave Choose one drive:
- if I select #1 I get this: Port: 1f0, Master/slave: b0 Err: fail to identify the flash type. - if I select #2 I get Port: 1f0, Master/slave: b0 and it hangs.
I tried to hotswap on my 360 allready powered on, but no luck.
Any idea? thanks in advance pdmx

mtkflash only scans the primary and secondary IDE ports, but your sata ports will likely be mapped as a third and fourth IDE port.. I have the same problem on my abit nf7-s2.

Thanks for quick answer, but is there a way to map sata ports like 1 or 2 Ide port?
Can I solve it buying a sata pci port?

pci card should in theory work, just make sure it doesn't have the SIL3112 chipset.

Does the bios recognize the TS drive connected as native sata / remapped sata? Does it hangs in one this 2 condition during boot?
Try to go in bios setup, select the TS drive (if recognized) and set device type to NONE (choice should be something like cdrom, none...)

the bios detects it, yes.. although sometimes I have to reset once before its seen. my sata ports are always seen as IDE ports 3 and 4, I have to way to switch to make them act as "real" SATA ports. I can't change the device type either, it only gives me options for HDDs.
