:)Hello and good morning just need to clear something up I have had 100% success with the update of a Hitachi 360 drive but never attempted it with the other Toshiba-Samsung Drive ive read the tuts and all seem straight forward little diff to Hitachi but doesn’t say anything about using the Xecuter 360 Connectivity Kit used previously with the Hitachi to help Win XP Recognizing the drive is this possible as I really don’t want to attempt the death wish VIA SATA 10 sec method to read/write flash. Please help.

You can use the connectivity kit to supply power to the Toshiba-Samsung drive and that's all. It won't help to get the drive detected because the Samsung drive doesn't have a modeB. If you have an MS28 drive you still have to either use the 10 sec trick with a ViA chipset or do the VCC mod/switch. If you have an MS25 drive then you don't need to worry about the 10 sec trick and the VCC mod/switch.
I hope this clears it up

Here's a link to where you can download Textbook's tutorial. It's the best tutorial out there and contains everything you need. As far as using the connectivity kit to supply power to Samsung is concerned. It's simply a preference thing. Remember though, that if you do use the 360's power supply to power the drive, to use a croc clip to ground your 360 to your PC

Thanks for the the help top stuff so just to confirm if you dont mind help and answering questions are all the Hitachi Drives versions able to be updated via mode B mode including the very latest drives ?
Is it just the MS28 Samsung version that takes more work, 10 sec trick and the VCC mod/switch etc,, to update or is there a version that are unable to flash ? is there a MS29 ?
Im not to sure about this but heard that ,,,Whats this Sata Card trick for the ms28 sammy is this possible better over the 10 sec trick and the VCC mod/switch?

All of the current Hitachi drives can be flashed once they're put into modeB. The v78 drive can only be put into modeB by using the latest Slax CD and then by using Maximus's tool, Firmware Toolbox 3.0 to read and patch the firmware.
There are currently 3 different firmware versions of the Samsung drive (the MS25, MS28 and the hardly seen MS21 drive). The MS21 doesn't seem like it's a mass produced drive yet, as I've only seen a few posts where people have mentioned that they've had it and it usually seems to show up in refurbished consoles.
The SATA trick that you're talking about is the 10 sec trick. It requires a ViA SATA chipset (either the 6421L or 5421A are highly recommended). The only other way of flashing an MS28 at this stage is by doing the VCC mod/switch, which unless you are evry good at soldering I wouldn't even consider.
I hope this answers your questions

Do I want to be using the Maximus's tool, Firmware Toolbox 3.0 with all the other old/new Hitachi Version drives as well NOT just the v78 ?
As for the Samsung drive MS28 ,,So I guess for me as no good at solidering the vcc trick is out of the question, the The SATA trick that you're talking about is the 10 sec trick is the best way then without destroying brick the dvd drive ?
So is there no need for any tricks then for Win XP Recognizing the drive if you have the Samsung MS25 ?

You can use Firmware Toolbox 3.0 on all makes and models of retail 360 drives (Samsungs and Hitachi's).
It can be used to do a raw dump of all current Hitachi drives, and also patch them with your drive key and flash them with your hacked firmware.
Firmware Toolbox 3.0 can't be used to actually flash a Samsung drive but it can be used to create a hacked firmware for a Samsung drive. At this point MtkFlash and X360SAM are the preferred tools for flashing a Samsung drive.
If you do need to flash an MS28 drive and you're no good at soldering (which from what you're saying sounds like it's the case) then do not attempt the VCC mod 'cause there's a better than average chance that you will wreck your 360's DVD drive.
If you need to flash an MS28 then what you need to do is to get yourself a SATA card with a ViA chipset (like I said either the 6421L or 6421A are highly recommended). You will then need to use the 10 sec trick to flash your MS28. There is plenty of info on how to do this in Textbook's latest tutorial. I provided a link to it in an earlier post.
Follow this tutorial and you shoudn't have too many problems.
Any other questions you have will be covered by that tutorial (believe me, everything you'd possibly want to know about flashing a 360 is in there).
Anyways I hope this answers everything for you

Okay thank you for the help scrano top man i do a little more reading in future i promiss,, but I have one last question to rap it up, as have your attention and been so great ,,the SATA card with a ViA chipset is needed then for the Samsung MS28 because of the Via Chipset correct as I have plentty of SATA ports on my motherboard etc thats how do Hitachi's is this not possible ?
Out of the two which is better the 6421L or 6421A ? does this make any difference that im in the UK United kingdom and purchasing may be difficult is there a alternative that UK customers are purchasing? thanks

If your motherboard SATA ports that you used to flash your Hitachi drives are ViA SATA ports (they have to be from the ViA SATA chipset) then you can just use those to flash either of the Samsung drives. If they aren't and you do need to get a seperate ViA SATA card then I would recommend the ViA 6421L. You should be able to find either of these cards in the UK

Make sure that you have connected the USB drive before you load Xtreme Boot Maker and also before you load Xtreme Boot Maker check in Windows Device Manager and see if Windows has detected the USB drive correctly. It sounds like the USB flash drive hasn't been detected properly
Are you choosing the correct drive letter for the USB drive? I've seen people get errors 'cause Xtreme Boot Maker checks the floppy drive by default.
What is your USB flash drive's drive letter?
You could always also choose to try again or continue and see what happens, then if it formats it go ahead and try and see whether it boots from it at all but make sure that you've picked the right drive letter for your USB drive and that it's been detected correctly

Couldnt fix the error message in end ,,kept getting with xtreme boot maker .
The USB Flash drive installed into windows fine and showing up no errors in device manger.
Besides this all fixed now all I need to do is just take the tick out of Format and make Bootable and hit Prepare Drive again. It then saves fine onto the pen without error messages. and do the make Bootable myself see below
All thow had to do a update to my pen to make it Bootable dos style found this site to be helpful in the end. endhttp://www.weethet.nl/english/hardware_bootfromusbstick.php
thanks very much for help scrano cheers

It was more than likely that the update that you needed to do to your USB flash drive in order to make it bootable was what was causing the error message that you were getting with Xtreme Boot Maker.
I'm betting that if you try your USB flash drive again with Xtreme Boot Maker, and use the option to "format and make bootable" now that you've done that update that it will work fine.
Anyways it sounds like you've got it sorted out now. I hope everything goes well for you from here, good luck
