Hi,

I don't know if anyone else noticed this, probably but I thought I would post this information anyway just incase.  I couldn't find anything searching.

My 360 died over XMAS (1 month old...) due to the DVD drive grinding away at discs...  Anyway, I kept the HDD and swapped the console with the retailer.  There were a couple of things I noticed, firstly upon first booting up I had to reconfigure the video settings and network connectivity info etc, which must be stored somewhere other than the HDD which suprised me.  Further, I played Dead Rising again which I had been playing previously.  I noticed long delays in the loading process (noticeable) which at first I thought was due to a damaged disc, but it occured on every new scene in the game, upon revisiting those scenes they loaded as they did on the old console, ie. 3 to 4 times faster.

This means that the cache files were either cleared down after choosing my display settings / network settings, or they are encrypted with the per box key and must need clearing down / rebuilding when you use the HDD in a different console.

Do you have the latest version of the dashboard/kernel and updates for the game? Did you when you first started playing on this new Xbox?

There is a base model, you can play without a hard-drive. It wouldn't make any sense to store those settings on the hard-drive if half of the people who own a 360 don't have one.
