I have come to the conclusion that the VIA VT6421 cards are in compatible with Hitachi drives in Windows.

Could someone tell me a make/model of a card that is 100% compatible so that I can flash my Hiatchi 47DJ!

*THANKS*

I just recieved by VT6421 and like GIGABITE the Sata port on the back of the device is a strange port that none of my Sata cables will fit.. Anyways.. I find myself in a loop.. From my undertanding VT6421 will not do Hitachis... Which is fine because I also have a SIL3512 to do my Hitachis.. Which works great... But I am wondering is when and if I come across a 0078FK will I have the hardware I need to flash the firmware...

Good so it's not just me (about the red port on the back! - maybe we got fakes or people just don't know what they are talking about?) if you can get your Hitachis into mode B via Slax CD, then when you come across a 78 (asumming you can get your Hitachi's into mode B via Slax) tehn yes you will be able to flash drives...please let me know if you can get your Hitachi's into mode B via Slax (if this is a card then i'll buy it and test it out) MSimpson Wink

Gigabite did Protubus claim that the VT6421 card would work using the port on the back of the PC?

I have 2 ports on my card.  I have mine plugged into the rear port and it doesn't work with the Hitachi drive.

In having said that I cant find anything to do with RAID in my BIOS so cannot disable it.  But my current setup is 100% perfect to flash Samsung drives

Tempted to buy a PC with a built in SATA as Im not getting anywhere.
I used an HP PC at work that has built in Intel SATA and Hex edited the MTKFLASH to do previous Hitachi's.

Hey everyone, I found this (http://cgi.ebay.com/Silicon-Image-Sil3512-2-Port-Serial-ATA-PCI-Controller_W0QQitemZ290064982484QQcmdZViewItem)
but it's in the US, and I have been scammed twice from the US..I also found this
(http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Silicon-Image-Sil-3112-SATA-Serial-ATA-2-Port-Raid-Card_W0QQitemZ230071695789QQihZ013QQcategoryZ3753QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)
which is in my country (or maybe even hong kong - but I haven't been scammed by them once) would this work for me?  I am willing to try it but I don't have lots of cash at the moment to splash around

gigabite

EDIT: I have found that this card is compatible so I will buy it and let you all know Wink

Ok, well.....tested with latest Slax CD...nothing well it's not in device manager anyway I didn't get time to check my computer cause I heard a pop (which means bad news for something hope it's not my card) come from somewhere (I hope it was outside).  I think it was my screen because it's old and crappy half stuffed... I don't think this works, to those who said they have been able to get Slax to get there drives into mode B via the external port (the red one on the back) liars!!  I looked in my computer and I did not have the yellow question mark next to the card this time and windows did not hang (however on ALL my attempts I have not been able to get the "drive now in mode b thanks to kev.nu" thing).  I don't believe this will work with this card..just tested the drive and it ejects all ok so nothing wrong there and the 360, well I don't care just a dead one, has no GPU anyway!

EDIT: Re-did my tests and... the Hitachi 47DJ was, not in mode B.  I checked My Computer and Device Manager and the drive did not show up in anything.  I am sure the cable is in the right way etc..now it's onto testing the 3112 card

maybe some hints from my side (the adapters I used and tested):

1) SIL3112/3114 = VERY BAD CHIPSET since some of them do not support atapi devices at all (most of the ones labeled with "RAID") Try this only with Slax1.0 NOT a newer version
2)USB->SATA adapters: I have a very cheap noname usb-sata adapter which works out of the box (with slax >=2.0); if there is trouble you can give the parameters of the dongle via fix_inq_vendor_id and fix_inq_product_id to force the sending of the modeb command (although this should not be needed anymore)
3)SATA->IDE converters: This is the simplest, easiest and cheapest way to get your drive into mode_b (I have four different controllers (all noname from ebay) none of them ever made problems) but keep in mind to order an adapter for putting a sata drive to an ide port (not the other way round)

There is something fishy going on with the VT6421 chipsets; I received logs from xboxtilburg.tk who reported that some drives work with one controller and others dont Huh I am still looking into this

My personal favourite is the ide->sata converter (I got mine for ~10EUR at ebay)

Thanks for your post probutus... good info

My SATA to USB adaptor and my SIL 3112 card arrived today.

All set for the next Hitachi that comes my way!  Man I wish I had one to test now...

Is flashing the 360 drives addictive...?  I think it is.  I was having dreams about SATA cards and motherboard last night.  Not good
