Also currently I believe only FWtoolbox3.0 works on the 78 drives.

I pulled apart my PC one more time to try this... and it didnt work for me.  Windows just hangs as soon as the SATA cable is back in.

I have ordered a SIL3112A card for doing pre 078 Hitachi's.  Hopefully my 6421A will be OK for 078's (from what I have read).

But right now I cant imagine ANY Hitachi making it into Windows with a drive letter!!

The card I got is a Syba SY-VIA 150R and I have more problems flashing samsungs than I do hitachi's. I've never had a problem with hit drives, never tried a 78 though.

Well, I can get Samsungs flashed with this card (MSimpson) I have no problems with that..try booting into safe mode buddy (then nothing can conflict software wise etc, if it does then it's possibly the drivers) - like I said in the other thread (maybe this one) any one able to get me a firmware dump of this card (not drivers!!) WHO CAN GET THERE Hitachi into mode B with this card!

I have a VT6421A and use Xecuter connectivity kit to get Mode B on Hitachis (SLAX doesn't work, didn't try v2).
For the most part, it works fine, have to use the external port for Hitachi drives, mine has a standard SATA plug on the back.

BUT, I have had a couple of 47DJ's that do exactly as mentioned above, locks windows loading, none of the tricks work, when it does load into windows I get an error (CODE 10 I think).
I had three 47DJ's to do recently, first two worked fine, last one decided it didn't like me..
The only difference in the drives was the one that didn't work was substantially more used than the other two and alot noisier.
Perhaps there is some hardware issue with some 47DJ's and this card.

In the end I just pulled the chip off and used a trusty Willem programmer Smiley
What would a dump of the VT6421A firmware assist in?

Alternate solution for the Hitachis is a SATA to USB converter. Whit this type of device you're almost guaranteed that the drive will not hang in windoze. I have an MSI NEO2 Plat... , these boards are notorious for hanging in windoze on the hitachi drives with the onboard sata connections. The Hit... drives do however work on a SATA to USB converter, with a little swapping involved, if a connectivity kit is not available to you. This was my solution untill i bought the VT6421L sata card. So if your sammys work fine on your sata card just buy a SATA to USB solution, as the sammys do not work on these devices.

Yes, but by the time you either buy yourself a con kit or a usb to sata adapter and get it all working together (my point is mainly on con kit's cost here) the card has cost you less + you can flash 78's...btw I get error code 10 as well - if someone could dump the firmware of there card that works with the getting hitachis into mode B then I would be willing to flash my card (gotta Williem in front of me now)
