Hey guys, my mum had a spare "car key" (electronic, push the button it unlocks no other buttons simple) and it wasn't working...thought ok i'll take a look at it seeing as it doesn't work what can go wrong, checked battery with multimeter put it all back together and it didn't work, so I was like ah well.  Then for some reason i pulled apart the working one and well now it doesn't work!!  I checked the battery with the multimeter (both are fine and working) and all I did was pull the battery out and try it in the other one.  Car still starts/locks (when you push the key in and turn the lock - it locks all the other doors) but now when you push the button it doesn't lock/un-lock like it used to.  I didn't touch anything inside I didn't solder anything etc NOTHING!! I though maybe I have to reset it or something, so I pulled the neg of the battery left it off for like 20secs, put it back on then tried again nothing!  I have checked all the fuses and none are dead (if 1 was dead I would know because 1 fuse sort of controls two things - i.e like the door locking one, if it's blown it won't lock and the radio will not turn on...radio still turns on so it's not dead none are).  Please help me, I have to repair it (mums not really fussed but still) it's $150 for a replacement :0  I figure all they do is get the code of the chip put a new one in bingo $150...dam it.  Please help me please!!!!!!!  Car is a 95' Toyota Lexen

gigabite - Please!! Cheesy

EDIT:  I know why the spare key wasn't working, one day my mum dropped it and it cracked teh solder on one point, re soldered it but still no go!

the key lost its central lock code when you removed the battery. you have to re-sync it with the car. check in the manual of the locking system or the car itself to see how to do it, it's different for every system.

Ahhh I see what you mean, I also was reading about PATS or something but you had to have one good key and one bad one (I have 2 bad ones :p - I have PATS 1)...I tried what you said along with some other methods but it's still not working, just in case I also bought a new battery and tried that and still no go:(  Any one know specific instructions for this car Huh (I was reading for Honda's they can be started with certain system of pulls and key turns but it has to correspond to the cars VIN, anything like that for this car?)..I need a tad more help, even if I have to purchase something off eBay (I looked at keys and I saw blank ones...lol I have a blank one I want a programmed one!!)

hmm might give it a try, I have been told though this can be fixed if I take it to a mechanic, he hooks a special programmer up to this thing (that looks like the wiring loom, if you have ever done a car stero) under the drivers side next to the pedals and gets all the information form the engine managment crap or whatever it's called...car cpu : p gets the code and re-does it on teh key for $30 AU, not alot of money but man I wish I didn't have to pay for it!!..I will check that website out hopefully I can find something (tried the camry thing no sucses, maybe cause it's got PATS 2 system)

thanks everyone Wink

the thing that they hook up is for the EGR. i cant quite remember wat it stands for. but i know that it is wat monitors every aspect of the running engine. for instance, if it detects that you are not getting a proper fuel to air mix, the EGR will try to fix the problem. if unsuccesful, it will give you that annoying check engine light. it also monitors air filters oil level sometimes tire pressure mileage and many other things needed to keep the car in its best shape.
