Hello

Sorry to ask the same stupid question like a few others but:

Bruteforcing the signature is very difficulty(maybe impossible) but maybe worth a try Smiley

I have access to a very high performance rendering network (about 4 racks with each 60 x P IV 3 GHz) normaly used to render
3DS Max

I can theoretical use this system the next 3 weeks up to 2 month.

Will that maybe be enought time to bruteforce the key?

BTW i dont know how to bruteforce it so if someone writes me a little utility i can try it on the render farm.

Best regards

No chance.

The bruteforce line of thought is a complete dead end. It is never going to happen.

i know this might sound really stupid...
but mostly when you want to disable something (like CRC) you just set it to 0xFFFF or 0x0000
has anyone tried it?

Yes it sounds really stupid. Do you really think they'll leave such a big security hole? C'mon ..

Everyone should simply forget about the idea that the digital signatures will and can be cracked. Look at the xbox1, has the digital signature been broken? No! Even after they awarded $100.000 in doing so ..

would it be possible to modify the data written onto the hdd while emulating?
i'm sure something can be done :/

Suppose you could change that data, what do you want to achieve?

You cannot change anything on the hdd while its running.  Even if you moddified the cache data, it would probably see the corrupt file and replace it.  Bruteforcing the key is more or less impossible, it would take hundreds of millions of computer hours to crack.  They have been trying to bruteforce the xbox1 key since it came out and haven't even come remotely close and the 360 uses twice the encryption.  I highly doubt that any software exploits are gonna be found for a while.

how would you know? you don't know it until you try...
it IS possible to write to the hdd while it is being used (the xbox360 doesn't read off it all the time)

But you want Halo2 mods? That's it? There's no fun to be had in doing that. If you only want Halo2 mods can't you just stick to the xbox1?? What did you try until now?

hey...it would be a good step if it worked...
that way, if somekind of buffer overflow is discovered it can be used...

As far as I know, the xbox emulator works in a virtual machine. This virtual machine is guarded by the hypervisor and has protection against a buffer overflow if I'm not mistaken. So, IF a buffer overflow is discovered in a xbox1 game then that doesn't automatically mean it can be exploited ..
