Hi all I have read lots of information before I start...The other day I fried my ms25, now when I plug it in with all cables I get e65 (I have original firmware btw) if I plug it in with just power I can get to the dash but just not eject. The drive moves the laser etc, just as it would if it were ejecting but it just doesn't open the tray. I was reading which particular chip gets fried and know that it can be replaced. I am wanting to know more about replacing it (soldering pro) and where I can get it from and cost (I live in Australia - don't care if I have to buy in bulk). Apparently it was the mn103 chip which gets fried (this ejects the drive), I am not sure whether this was for the Hitachi or the Samsung?? Any help would be much appreciated in fixing this P.S Do I have to re-programme the chip once I get a replacement? gigabite

How did you fry your drive? that might determine where the problem is. The MN103 is only in the Hitachi drive, not the samsung. I suspect the flash ic is damaged (SST39SF020A), but that would depend on what you were doing at the time. I am located in Melbourne, so if you need me to take a look at it, just PM me.

Well I had already flashed it with X 4.2A perfectly...just got the key in the wrong location (but I still have it!! - along with orig firmware dump). Well obviously not being able to play games...I had no other choice but to flash it again. Plugged it all in and before I turned on the computer I decided to turn on the 360 to see if all was how it should be, thats when it happened. I did not ground it cause I did not think this would make a difference but it obviously did!! I am pretty sure that the SST chip is fine, I had a bit of a smell at where I could sort of get a better idea on which chip was stuffed. It seemed to be coming from the long Ellite chip (forget the name and how to spell), I dunno if that controls the opening of the drive but yeah as I said the drive isn't opening.

Fixed one today for a customer which got a 360 off ebay by mistake that had a burnt out ram MT chip. I removed the eprom and extracted the key with the willem. I got a brand new sammy ms25 off ebay from Hong Kong. I'm happy to receive eprom chips and read the key and email them back to people. This is the best solution if you dont have spare drives for parts. Location Brisbane Australia

So we flashed it back 2 the original fw...somehow in between flashings the fw is corrupt and i need my key WHICH OF COURSE WAS ALSO CORRUPTED. Did i understand correctly that there is a way to get my key off of the eeprom or some other chip? PLEASE HELP!!! Its error code 65 that i get now btw...bricked for sure...drive doesnt eject or show up in scans on pc either HELP!!!!!!!!

no, you did not. if you don't have the key, you are f***ed, end of story. you can check if the backup of the original is still intact, that will have the valid key. if not, you can't do anything.

Well i ve read in a few places where the key can be read off of 1 of the chips somehow...either my key got changed after the backup or its encrypted somehow...anyway yea its screwed for the moment which sucks...and btw im not tryin 2 be a smartass but i dont see why when u ask a question on these boards (which is supposed to be what they are for) u get reamed just cuz u have already read 483908438583405803 million posts already and decide 2 ask...sorry for not being the one who invented the 360 security systems ....so am i correct in assuming there is no way whatsoever to get the key from a chip? with some sort of reader is what im getting at

if you already flashed the firmware with the corrupted one, the key is gone. there's nowhere else that is currently accessible to get the key.

I looked into that but no luck finding the correct parts and also got told it was too expensive to source individually. mt elite ram chips are on older xbox original drives and dvd roms but competely different i think. Just try and source dead rom boards would be the best way for parts.

YES YES YES YES !!! In the dead Samsung (Xbox boots fine with it and laser etc moves, just one connector has been ripped of pcb all traces gone no hope or repairing - I actually restored this box as I was scammed on eBay with it) it has the Elite MT Chip and the SST chip (numbers different but the difference in number is down to reading/writing time if I am correct)...I want to know if I desolder the EliteMT chip and put it in the 360's DVD drives mainboard will it work (will I have to re-program it??)...I think the SST chip on the 360's DVD Drive had not been recked...The following codes are on the EliteMT chip: Original Xbox : |-----------------------------------| | Elite MT 100MHz | | M11B416256A -25j | | FPC1N303N 0332 | |------------------------------------| Xbox 360 : |-----------------------------------| | Elite MT 100MHz | | M11B416256A -25j | | RZV1C51J9 0602 | |-----------------------------------| BOTH IC's have the same number of pins look exactly the same and are exactly the same size...would really like to know and would be an interesting experiment because if this works then we know that all we need is a dead Samsung DVD drive from an original Xbox (cheap on eBay) also I am a soldering pro and I do not mind if I mess this up because both drives are dead anyway so can't get much worse can it gigabite

Just thought I would share with you the data sheet ( http://www.esmt.com.tw/DB/manager/upload/M11B416256A.pdf) reading it now interesting info gigabite EDIT: Just tested all teh vcc/vss pins ... on pins 1 and 40 I get 5.05v - all good on pins 20 and 21 I get 5.05v - all good on pins 6 and 35 I get all different voltages - not good I figure that the chip is dead also because apart from those tests after a short while of being on (less than a minute) the chip gets very hot (indicating a short/fault in my experiences) - all the other chips are normal (again in my experience), no smell is smelt any more or anything but still when i plug in the sata cable I get e65. I am going to replace it and let you all know how I go seeing as the chips are the same etc hope this works (please god!!) gigabite

Holy $#!t!! You do not know how happy I am...as you can guess it worked :0 I am the first person (I suspect) that has reapired there bricked ms 25 drive with a new EliteMT chip!!! So guess what...now I am going to release a tutorial with teh best pics I can get. Ha ha to all you suckers out there who payed hundreds of dollars for a new dvd drive! Volatges on pins Now just to let you know I have a very very cheap multimeter and I was a little excited and nervous at the same time so the slight increase in voltages (not that it probably makes a difference) was probably due to the fact that I was shaking : on pins 1 and 40 I get 5.06v - 5.07v - all good on pins 20 and 21 I get 5.06v - 5.07v - all good on pins 6 and 35 I get all different voltages this happened with the other chip also?? Now all I have to do is wait for my new sata cable to come and re flash my drive with the correct firmware (my key is in the wrong spot :p) and I will put it back together and never touch it again!! Now for the testing part, I will play a DVD movie (if I can) and let you know if the drive gets hot or burns out etc etc !! tutorial coming shortly - gigabite EDIT TESTS: 5 min in the dash board...EliteMT Chip didn't even have a temperature (ejected and closed a couple of times) The middle chip (MTxxxxx) was a bit warm but this is all with the case off so when you close everything all up I suspect it will cool down a bit - so far all good...playing dvd movie no probs so far!! 10 min playing DVD movie no problems at all no chips are hot beautiful!! (the following two tests were done with the dvd all covers on not screwed in, 360 case all off main board just in grounding case) I will not put the 360 all back together and then test out a full DVD movie (te be more specific I am watching the movie Get Rich Or Die Tryin')

Excellent work. I thought it might work as both elte ram chips had 100mhz, but I already took the eprom off the sammy as I wanted to play with a willem. But a least it has been proven to work.
