You might need to also change the checksum to all zero's

ok stu, not seen u around on other forum for a bit.

anyways, i`m sort of having the same bother but in a different way.

ive made a few 47 drives, look like 078s no problem.

but come to do a 46 drive, to look like an 078 and no matter what, i cant get it to fire up.

if i do it so it is unhacked + key change + 078 version change, its fine.

but i cant do hacked + key change + 078 version ........................had a few hours out of me this yesterday so any developements on this will be inetrestiing.

Nah mate I haven't been on the secure forum for a while now. Sometimes look in ever now and again. When dont you just inject the keys into a 47 image and use that instead? The hardware will supoort it.

Where is the checksome on the 040?

The checksum is located in the same place on all Hitachi drives.

At HEX address >3E7FC --- Four bytes long --- until >3E7FF

When making any changes in the firmware from >6000 until >3E7FB,
you need to set these four bytes to the right checksum, or if you set
it too all ZERO's you will disable the checksum feature.

If you wish to calc the true checksum, use a program called "firmsum".

The Hitachi uses a MN103 Controller, which has it own sort-of-Risc set of common assmebler commands, much like a older 16bit computer,
but with 32bit addressing.

We use a problem called "IDA PRO" with modules written by "hitmen" to disassembly the Hitachi firmware into it's assembly form.

http://www.hitmen-console.org/

Check the above link for the manuals and modules needed to better understand the Xbox360 Hitachi.
