the data for the HD (size, model number, serial number, etc) is stored on the HD in an encrypted, signed section. considering the signature is not cracked and most likely never will be, it's impossible to change that data to fit another HD.
What key do u think they use?? If they use the key that xbox360 generates then it wouldnt be possible to upgrade the hdd would it.

When I put in a new hard drive into my 360 (20GB bought off eBay used on XBL - my first time I put in a HDD into this 360 - faulty bought off eBay, Premium console) when I went to format it it asked me for my serial number, I put it in and it formated the drive. Does this seem different or is this normal, I thought only Dev kit's asked for the serial numbers)

Well I can scratch that idea I had, hard drives from a dev/debug/demo kit are incompatible with retail 360's.But a 360 retail hdd will work on a 360 dev kit to and extent, but its pretty much useless. I tried my best to do these test on my 360 dev kit but all have failed. The only way for a bigger hdd to work in a retail 360 would be if MS came out with a larger hdd,or if the 360 got cracked to run unsigned code.

That pic is fake Im afraid,or its running on a dev/debug/demo kit.Like I said before, even if someone had a 80gb hdd from a 360 dev kit it would not even read in a retail 360,the 360 would not even detect it in the first place.

Try this PPL it Worked For Me...
Required Items:
Ok, heres a list of things you will need.
1. A motherboard on your computer that supports SATA hard drives 2. Another SATA hard drive (HDD) 3. Norton Ghost or any program that will make an exact copy of your existing drive onto the new one 4. A Torx screwdriver
Upgrade your Xbox 360 Harddrive:
1. First you will need to take the hard drive off the 360 and take it apart.
2. Now, connect both the xbox 360 harddrive and the new SATA drive to your computer.
3. Once both drives are connected run Norton Ghost and clone the original Xbox 360 HDD files over to the new hard drive.
BE VERY CAREFUL NOT TO OVERWRITE YOUR HDD.. I CAN'T STRESS THIS ENOUGH!!!
4. Once you have cloned the harddrive take the new hard drive and put it into the Xbox 360 HDD enclosure.
5. Stick it back onto your Xbox 360 and it should run fine.
Why Perform this Mod?? This mod will let you download more games and videos from the live arcade without worrying if you'll run out of space. Also if you are a person who loves to rip your cds to your xbox 360 harddrive then this will be Helpful as well.
Good luck

that is known to not work, as the HDD data is stored in the header of the HDD and doesn't match the actual HDD data. ghost has been tried many times.

Lol. Like Arakon says, this can't work, read up on the other thread to find out why. I am working on a hack to get a 'standard' HDD working in your x360 (which are much cheaper than the official MS upgrade set), but you can't use more than 20gb's of its size, unless the core gets hacked (e.g. if that mysterious german hacker was for real ) or MS ships bigger HDD's, so we can use that signature to clone.

I agree. If a 120GB Elite drive works on the original 360 there has to be something that is being overlooked. From what I am seeing there maybe something about having the partitions in place that makes the console see the size.
