What is the best way to be able to play games from a different region on a US Xbox (original)?

"Best" could mean "easiest", "cheapest", "safest", etc.

aladdin/duox2 or a softmod.
both won't allow you to play on live, though.

I was told that if u create a Ms backup that u woyld be able to play online i'm still checking out my resources.

Yes you can with a certain version softmod but softmods are not the way the go. Use a chip if you can.
