We decided to make a video on how to remove the "black epoxy" and two methods to desolder the TSOP flash on new Hitachi 0078fk drives.

This black epoxy (not glue) needs a higher temperature. Anything between 100-120°C is ok.

now enjoy it!   Wink

As always a very nice video , well done..

Except for one thing...
When removing the Tsop, you remove the chip from a <078 Board.
On these boards there is no epoxy underneath the chip. Just using a solder iron, will probably do not do the trick on a 078 board.

even if, it'll have the epoxy on the chip itself which won't affect the desoldering/soldering

Is that a hot air tip on the pyrpen, or is it a torch tip?  Just wondering cuz I have seen both while looking around for a quality pyropen like the one in the video.

Yes it does, the epoxy is also underneath the chip, as i showed here:

we used Weller Pyropen Piezo Soldering Iron
Cordless pyropen piezo soldering iron powered by butane gas.
Temperature adjustable by varying gas flow.

look here: http://www.tooled-up.com/Product.asp?PID=106473&Referrer

@ FuzzyLogic
first we wanted make only soldering/desoldering video, (so this part was made befor).
of course on some 78fk contoller boards there are epoxy underneath the chip but the desoldering procedures is same!!

we always show that you don't need really expensive equipment to remove the epoxy or desolder the chip!
if you have other equipment like "SMD BGA HOT AIR REWORK SOLDERING STATION" and some skills, so you don't need follow our "step by step guide".

yepp of course!!

if you have epoxy underneath the chip so you must warm up the chip and PCB a little bit longer.
works fine for me an my second 0078fk drive, without lifted pins!!

@Team MODFREAKz

Very interestring video Smiley Haven't gotten a Hit 78 yet, but sure will be in the near future.

In the video, timeline: 05:38, you are using some sort of solder... but it isn't sticking...
When I try to put some solder the same way... the whole copper-pin-line is a big solder mess  Cheesy

Can you tell me what solder this is
(I presume it is for getting some solder on those pins, so the chip will have a good connection after the pyropen heating)
