Nice image capture there. However I believe that is the case to the one that is open they are showing.

I mean when I take a case apart i normally set the top cover nearby.

Nevermind.. looked at it again. It appears there is a door next to the left of it. Unless the xbox is like 2.5-3 feet tall I don't think that is it.

Well I don't know about you guys, but when I bought my 360 I never signed an agreement stating that I wouldn't "hack" it or "modify" its contents whether it be software or hardware. Is this an assumption that should be legally binding to the point that I should be sued if I do in fact modify its contents? I own every bit of my 360, and by saying that I can't modify its contents is also inferring that someone else(microsoft) must own or have some interest in my 360. If that is true, do they have a "right" to come into my house and retrieve parts of my 360 that is legally theirs? I think the answer would be no, so I will also infer that because they have no right to enter my house or demand pieces of of 360 at any time after purchase, that I own the entire 360 and can do with it as I wish. I don't care about the software or code or firmware that runs on the xbox or the dvd drive. I bought it, and included in a portion of the price is the all of the hard work of the programmers who wrote the code. So I've paid for that code up to the point that they released it to the public. I should be allowed to pick up where they left off, or to "modify" their code to suit my needs better. With that said, I am comfortable modifying both hardware and software on my 360 and I am not worried about any legal consequences. As far as backups, I think its already established that we as consumers are legally allowed to keep "backup" copies of digital media that we legally purchase. So what's the problem here?

I really wish I could understand the mentality for not wanting to release the firmware, especially from a hackers perspective where we all work together and share with each other, whilst not being interested in any montetary compensation or rewards. To be honest, I'm one of those guys that's here thinking "what kind of prick would do all that hard work, announce its success publically, and then hold it for ransom to the highest bidder." Whats the point of even announcing that it's been done? Why even give them respect when first of all, nobody has verified it (video doesnt prove $#!t). And secondly, they did it as a personal challenge and not for the people who could really benefit from it. As anxious as everyone on this board appears to be, this is just cruel and immature, IMO.

Congrats TS & Company. Ive been paying close attention to the original xbox thread, and the 360 ones, i just wish i could understand what you guys were doing.  Ive seen all of the hard work and late postings on this site, and know that it has to be true.  Now just to get homebrew running.  And does the kiosk disk work now or not, or robinsod, will it work with your new firmware you are working on.  Good luck to all of you, i hope to see more great work from you guys and hope to god i get to use ur work on my 360 someday.

I have linked 4 images, first 2 are unmodified images before and slightly after the "white flash" where the black screen shows the reflection.

In the second 2 I have highlighted in RED what I believe is a door, door handle, and lightswitch. Those 3 are more visible while the movie in motion I feel (the MPG version post in the first post of this topic). Anyways I highlighted them.

The blue box is the object I guess you are questioning. From its size I don't believe it is 360, I could be wrong, but it is almost up to the door handle on the door.. so like I said 3 feet? And the counter next to it appears slightly taller.

HOWEVER it could be a 360 sitting closer to the camera than I can tell, however when you look at the first image (or watch the video) I believe the floor is visible, so I think it is across the room, and much larger than the 360.

Feel free to speculate though.

It would be helpful if all posts by the idiots who don't understand the publically known technical details (and workings) of this "hack" were completely deleted from the thread.

Seriously. If you don't understand it, don't post at all. This is not xboxnoobs.net.

Specialist I think you guys need to work on a custom HD for the 360, this way at least you will be able to release your findings to the public :p

I don't believe it is a fake video of explaining "visually", of how the hack works, and of it indeed working. As for myself, I am fairly impressed by what TheSpecialist has achieved with the security of the Xbox 360. My specialty is in hardware/software programming. I have been attending ITT Tech for almost five years now. I have recieved a Computer Programming Diploma, and I am cautiously thinking about helping the Xbox 360 scene. Although, I doubt my help is of any need. It seems as though, there is plenty of intelligent "hackers" people in the scene to do justice.

Lethal Dosage.

Why would they release a fake video in the first place? to get slated and lose credibility if it was proven fake?
it just does not make any sense.

These guys have done a lot of work for the scene, I am not an expert in assembly but everything they have done should be easy to work out if you have the knowledge.
If you dont then there's no point in slating all of this work because you wouldnt know if it was real or not anyways.
(if anyone has got a commented ida disassembly they can upload somewhere  Wink)

From the angle of releasing a fw hack, i think it would be a good idea (not from the piracy point of view) but because it would allow people to experiment with files on other disks, like we could with the kiosk disk  ( I think perfect dark zero has an ini file for instance)
but ms will surely have some sort of countermeasure to implement in future games / dash updates.

If external data files can be modified, then it may open other avenues as stated previously.
I still think the kiosk disk may be a good bet due to MS banning it, and also because demo's etc may not have had all the bugs ironed out as much as a finished product *should*.

Instead of everyone slating etc, I think these people should try to put there efforts into something more constructive like looking at the fw themselves.

Good work guys

congrats guys, please keep up the good work. This hack is not useless, it shows that firmware moddifications is currently unchecked by the 360 which provides alot more information than most would think.  And the CR data, NICE! proof enough for me and very helpfull thx.  Wink Now the software flasher is a good concept.  Alot harder to develope than just takin the TSOP off, but hey would make it eaiser for debugging and testing newer firmware, sounds like a plan to me.

A lot of questions in PM's, I'll try to answer them all later today. About the video: it was released for fun, not as 'proof'. A video can't proof anything actually. The proof is in the technical details in the HW section of this site, but of course, you'll need some knowledge to understand these. But like said before, if the info is not correct, we'll sure as hell be proven wrong soon Smiley

Anyway, If we had shown the back, ppl would have said that we had hid the xbox UNDER the table. if we had shown under the table, ppl would have said that we had hid the xbox IN the TV. If we had opened the TV, ppl would have said we had put a wireless receiver IN the TV. If we had shown all HW IN the TV, ppl would have said we had edited the video. Hehe.

Anyway, about the theories about the 2nd 360 in the reflections ... It's amazing how sceptic ppl become when they don't understand the HW details of the hack Smiley Anyway, I'm upping the original right now, you can see much better in that what that 'supposedly' 360 is Smiley It's a 100 mb file, upping it right now, connection is a bit slow, will post the link in about an hour I guess Smiley

Down the original in an hour and look again Smiley
