Linked,
IF you don't have experience with things like that, DON'T TRY TO REMOVE THAT CHIP. I've already seen posts on other forums about broken traces and other such anomalies. I'd urge you to wait. This may be patched by MS before it's ever even leaked. They have the abilitiy to access any site just as easily as you do and it's MORE than possible that they've already started working on patching this hack. I just hope you haven't done any damage already. Remember, by the time you see a Generic Hacked firmware, you're going to have a tool to flash it with. (most likely) At this time, there is NO software method for flashing the firmware. Robinsod posted earlier that he's sure it's POSSIBLE but it's just not done yet. Why would ANYONE make a public release of the hack without an ability to flash it!? Relax and wait, *OR* practice removing and replacing chips on something old that you can afford to lose. (i.e, old Mobo, or PCI soundcard or something.) Get yourself some quality supplies, I.E. Good quality sucker, de-soldering braid, good fine tip/low watt iron. This is a big undertaking if you've not done it before and you should practice your skills so that there is less possibility of permanent damage!!

Cheers for the warning m8. im used to removing 56tsop chips and such with hotair station or gaspro. but they never have the glue c*ap all over them. lol im looking around for someting good to remove all this glue stuff easily. thanks again tho and yes it isnt a easy job so unless you are able to do this and arnt willing to risk killing your drive board DON'T TRY IT.

As someone who has removed that flash, if you are unexperienced with delicate work or have ANY cares about breaking your 360 then DONT DO IT.
It definately was not an easy thing to do and unless you have the right equipment then stay away, if the thought of having a broken 360 scares you then stay away. At this point there is really no reason for you to be removing your flash, what do you plan on doing with it?
You people do realize if you f*** up your flash your key is lost for good? Time for a new 360.
That being said, I had good luck removing the bulk of the epoxy with a flat bladed 40w soldering iron. As for removing the package itself, I used a SMD rework station with a four outlet nozzle (PLCC) attachment.

You can tell what drive you have just by looking at it open check this link for how. http://www.xboxhacker.net/index.php?option=com_jd-wiki&Itemid=37&id=xbox360_dvd_romWhy is everyone gearing up to tear the chip off the drive when the firmware hasn't even been released? Just relax and wiat to see what develops over the course of the next month or two. Why risk ruining a perfectly good console and vioding the your warrenty? I mean unless you're god enough to add some insight and develop the work of talented hackers.

"Just relax and wiat to see what develops over the course of the next month or two. "
I can almost guarantee there will be a simpler way to flash the drive far sooner than another month or two.

I have no intentions of destroying my box since i have very little soldering experiance So i will wait and hope that a generic firmware with software based flasher will be released soon, since i dont have the hacker experiance alot of people on this board has, but i stil cant wait to play around with it Seems Team Xecuter have started a forum soley for the purpose of making the firmware easy to use for everyone and flashed via PC Taken from: http://www.teamxecuter.com/"We have opened up a new forum dedicated to Xbox 360 Development http://www.teamxecuter.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=69Please ask any questions you like and give any input that you see fit. If you would like a staff position to help run this forum please contact admin@teamxecuter.comAlso if there are any high end designers out there who'd like to take on the job of redesigning our front page please also email us at the same address. We have made some progress with a new read/patch/write app and no doubt you will all be plugging in your drives to your PC and having some fun shortly - all for free too as no modchips required (and yes we still want to play!) Here is what we envisage... > Connect Xbox 360 DVD-ROM to PC > App to update firmware with magic code > Connect DVD-ROM back to 360 - and away you go Also this site has some killer information : http://www.kev.nu/360/dvdshort.htmlObviousley the only use for this is piracy - hence you wont see any modchips (not from us at least - however they wouldn't be needed anyway - however we do have a few cheap tools to make life much easier - more on that soon) Still a long long way off from unsigned code - but it's a start.... Thanks to The Specialist for reviving the scene! We understand he doesn't want to release anything due to possible backlash - but there are many of us who would - and will. Keep your eyes on our 360 forums for updates..... btw Qwix2 Rules !" Enjoy
