For all ppl with their '360 in reflection theories' =>

http://rapidshare.de/files/15899907/360hackORG.mpeg.html

Best frame you can see what your supposedly 360 is, is the frame just before the screen goes red.

I think the best 'proof' of this video is in the laser movement. It's reading the responses from disc, from the outer area. Try to get your 360's laser to do the same movement when YOU insert a DVD-R. Also, listen to the sound of the disc spinning up and try to get your drive to do that when you insert a backup.

Yes, the video could still be fake, but with this original video, I am sure everybody agrees that if this is fake, then we'd need some very expensive high tech hardware to have done it Smiley

forums are for help not slagging off, i am well impressed and so should you all be unless you can do better Huh ( cant hear ya ).

Great work from "the specialist"among others. However for the regular noobs like me for example it's like we use to call it in dutch : "schiet mij maar lek"( Beats me!!!). Do not understand the technical background. My own fould ofcourse i should have at least ended the "kindergarten"and not have decided to earn money just plain working Grin Grin however i like to congratualate the specialist and others who have far greater minds than mine. I am sure a hack of some kind will be availlable to all of uss in the near future. It's thanks to these people that it will. So stop asking abouw wheter or not this video is true. The only thruth is that none of us will survive to be 150 years of age Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin

I'm not going into a flame war with anyone, but if you're willing to discuss this like adults, I'm willing too. Down the original video and please explain to me how we could have faked the laser movement without having VERY expensive professional equipment and investing (tens of ?)  thousands of dollars to have gotten it done.

hi i asked a question about doing this.if i was try it would it kill my drive or not boot due to the firmware being changed to boot dvd-r's.
and did you get the info from running the kosik disc that was able to run on a dvd-r giving the value number of the drive reading a dvd-r disc.

is it possiable to back up the firmware and can it be flashed like say a pioneer to update the firmware.sorry if these question are crap just trying to understand.

Couldn't MS put something into the .xex on all future games to check the firmware?

Seems like an easy to implement solution since we can't modify the .xex without killing the signature.

It's normally possible to reflash a 'dead' LG drive by using a recovery mode. The firmware will check itself at boot, if anything is wrong it will go to recovery mode.

and did you get the info from running the kosik disc that was able to run on a dvd-r giving the value number of the drive reading a dvd-r disc.
The story about the kiosk disk is ofcourse known. But it has nothing to do with this hack.

Yes it's possible to dump your firmware. No the x360 drive can't be flashed by an software flasher yet. Skills needed for current hack: able to remove, reflash and re-install TSOP chip.

Sure. Only problem is that an xex file can't know it advance which new drives / models / revisions will be used further along the line. Security should be done by the kernel, not the xex file.

I totally beleive that you have accomplished this.

Congratulations and much Respect

I have 3 Questions for the Specialist.

1.  Now that you have done this what is your next move to progress your work?

2.  Since you are not publicly releasing your hack will you instead allow specific hackers or teams to continue and perfect your method?

3.  Do you feel that this will grant you greater access to the system firmware or bios so that you might develop a way to load unsigned software or even an Operating System.

Thank You

I suppose they could also put the kernal update on all future games to kill it for those who don't use Live.

It seems this victory will be short lived, I hope something more can come from it.

Wouldn't releasing this allow for faster and greater advances to the 360 hacking scene by allowing more people the ability to contribute?

To clarify I am not after this myself.  I do not open consoles that I do not have the money to replace if broken.  I'm just curious as to how this will effect the entire scene as a whole?  Are you holding off on this to sell your research to a Chip Manufacturer?

Thanks again

but would you work with another team on this topic.
also to get the drive to dump the firmware i need to conncet to a pc using the xbox1 drive bit or this that rubbish.or just the sata drive and drive will reset it self if i mess it up.

Would it not be possible to put the firmware onto a pc hitachi dvd rom and swop it with the 360 dvd rom probably a stupid question but i felt you guys would be kind enough to answer it.

silverpalm@ Don't do anything to your xbox that your don't understand. Remember read all warnings. So far, only the 360 LG drive can be dumped via software. The Sammy, can be dumped with a hardware programmer. But a nice summary, for dumping the LG drive firmware via software can be found here:

Congrats on the fine job done.

I'm not trying to disrespect The Specialist or his team in anyway by saying this but, I know you guys don't want this to get out to the masses because of piracy and cheating and whatnot.  But have you guys ever thought of the legal and potentially breakthrough applications of this firmware hack?  Look at the PSP.  Hackers were stumped at hacking firmware 2.1 and up untill someone made a gamesave exploit for GTA.  I mean, can't you guys see this happening on the 360 as well?  Maybe it's not as simple as that, but in my oppinion being able to boot backups that could in any way be modified could open up a lot of possibilities to get this thing running linux.

Just my 2 cents.
