If your 3114 controller has a RAID Bios you cant attach ATAPI devices to it; you can try to upload a IDE Bios ( www.siimage.com ) This should work then... Thanks, this is the latest bios i found in the web page you gave me: SiI3114 IDE, SATARAID5 and system BIOS 5.3.14 3/24/2006 93 KB This download includes IDE, SATARAID5, and system BIOS. The r####.bin file is the SATARAID5 BIOS and the b####.bin is the IDE BIOS. The ####.bin is an abbreviated BIOS intended for integration into system BIOS. Do NOT flash system BIOS into an add-in card BIOS. Use the included IDE BIOS with with the latest driver(s): SiI3x14 1.2.0.5 IDE Windows driver. SATARAID5 BIOS supports RAID levels 0, 1, 5 and 10. Use the included SATARAID5 BIOS with the latest RAID driver(s): SiI3114 1.3.4.0 SATARAID5 Windows driver. Use the included system BIOS with the latest SATARAID5 Tool. Do I have to install only the IDE bIOS that itīs in Black font?? The three of them?? With that you think is it ok? What version of Slax Linux i should try first? Bye

you should try the b###.bin file since then you should be able to talk to ATAPI (=CD/DVD) Drives. Hopefully you have a flashable bios (my PCMCIA 3112 doesnt )

The new slax2.0 alpha 1 now also supports generic SATA devices; I have received logfiles from the procedure and saw that if you connect the Hitatchi via USB the same identification procedure is done like sata devices;
If there is someone out with a usb-sata adapter and a hitachi drive can you please test the following:
1) connect the Hitachi through USB to the PC 2) boot slax without any special options (e.g. with out the fix_inq* stuff) 3) Assumption: The drive should now be automatically recognized and switched to modeb!
-> This would mean that we dont need the separate modeb command anymore on the livecd!

Thanks! I have created a minislax bootdisk (=1.44MB) which should do the same like the bootcd; when the kernel is booted it panics since it cant find a rootfilesystem; thats ok since the hitachi should already be in modeb then; so all you have to do is push the reset button.. It supports 1)Hitachi drive connected via sata->pata converter 2)Hitachi connected via USB 3)Hitachi native sata connection (like the cd) Can you please test it and give feedback? I could not test it for above mentioned reasons... EDIT: you can use rawrite to transfer the image to a floppy or put it on a CD in the bootsector.. Question: Is it possible to incorporate this bootimage into the samsung enable0800 bootcd? so we could have one disc for all supported drives... http://rapidshare.de/files/36237428/mini_slax20_alpha1.img.html

please try the following (with no sata-hdd connected):
1) boot slax and login with username root password toor 2) plugin a formatted usb stick and type the following
mount /dev/sda1 /mnt cp /var/log/messages /mnt dmesg > /mnt/dmesg.txt umount /mnt
3) then reset the pc and reboot to windows; there should be 2 new files on your usb stick (messages and dmesg.txt); can you please pm me that stuff? I will have a look...
if you get an error with "mount /dev/sda1 /mnt" please try "mount /dev/sda /mnt" instead

Thanks so very much probutus, had a 47dj drive that was giving me headaches trying to get into modeb, your floppy did the trick first go
Only issue I had was a windows one where the drive was listed as generic cd/dvd drive, work fine with the maximus garyopa pakage though, flashed first try
Thanks to everyone, once again, just a little reading goes a long way, have been reading all of you guys hard work since early in the 360, do not post often at all as my technical knowledge is extremely limited, but felt like I should say thanks, and you asked for verification of it working.
I used these controllers, flashed once on each, to make sure they both worked, I use the intel for samsung, left in raid setting in the bios (do not use native, it does not work for me, just when left in raid) the other I have been using for hitachi.

Sorry to bump this, but was it confirmed that the USB sata adapter works with slacks? I know people said they were going to try it, but no one posted their results

I tested the usb support with my no-name cheapo usb->sata adapter and it worked like a treat; however if you encounter problems you have to type on the slax boot prompt:
linux fix_inq_vendor_id=<Vendor id of your usb_sata adapter> fix_inq_prod_id=<product id of your sata adapter>
If the method works depends on the behaviour of the sata adapter (if it forwards the inquiry data without any modification you should not need to apply the fix_inq* parameter)
