yes I used my willem programmer!

bios detects the drive as: J7_50951  P51.10.b1
but no recognition with mtkflash.

the laser is different to HL and TS, there is no name on it, so mayby one of you know it!!

First off the ALI microcontroller is only 64K address space

So the ROM divided into two banks of 64K each

With the first 4K block of code being the same

Layout is like this "4K common + 60K bank1 +  4K common + 60K bank2"

Much like the Samsung but a little easier, only two banks inside of four.

This must be a sample drive sent to MS for testing purposes.

Early on in 2006 after the first hack was released, MS decided to switch to BenQ drives made by the "Philips" team,
then shortly after BenQ got the order, they got taken over by Lite-On, as such MS requested that the new company
must go thru the whole validation/testing progress again, and MS needed to switch back to Hitachi with the new v78 drive,
but in the 3rd Quarter of this year, LiteOn will be shipping new drives to the MS assembly lines which by then we should
start to see in the new year (2007) models, or maybe just be XMAS if we have a busy Holiday season this year.

The drive in the picture is actually mine.  Unfortunatley, I am totally unfamiliar with the process of replacing my busted Hitachi Drive with it.  I've never did a firmware update, so I am evem more stuck.

Here are more picss of the drive if needed:

Yep, looks like the SPI serial flash is to the right of the controller chip.

Neat also that MS also decided to cover half of the RAM pins with that old white glue $#!t,
besides of the norm covering of the "serial flash" and "matching controller pins".

Glad you guys like it.  Now can someone direct me to a step by step method of replacing my old Hitachi drive with this one?   Grin

I'll list where my computer guy obtained the drive when I speak to him again.
