My 9 month old launch 360 got the 0102 error and I've been pondering if I should just spring for a core system or send the broken premium back to MS. It has 2 year warranty in europe.

Now, does anybody know if MS just look to see if the warranty sticker is in place and uncut or do they open the box further and examine it for signs of intrusion? The sticker is no problem but if they look at the little clips on the back of the case for little marks of the case being opened?

In any case, I was an adamant defender of MS product quality but the whole loose-solderings (due to heat) issue with these launch units is a huge problem and MS should make it public, even recall all units (though giving an infinite warranty for them like they have is the same as recalling them, one by one).

you would be taking a big chance sending your 360 back..
with all this $#!t going on,

you can be sure m$ will investigate the 360 , they wont just throw it in a dark corner and forget about it.

they need to know what is causing the problem,

The unit will be inspected by salesman to see if the seal is broken. U won't get warranty! They will check to see if the unit have a rom hack even if the seal is intact! So only real failures will be honoured.

I seriously doubt they take the time to examine some marginal rom hacks especially when the problem is not with the drive but the motherboard. And besides I can return the orig.bin to the drive no sweat.

That's what U should do. My friend  just opened his machine curiority killed the cat syndrome and his 360 fried itself couple months later (no hacks were available then)....... no warranty. Having learnt his lesson the next box was not opened or modded and its been back to M$ three times so far!

Yep now I've flashed to orig and even managed to get the system to work long enough to test it reads dvd and doesnt like the backups any more.

All set to go back to MS, just gotta call them tomorrow. I would think they have tens of systems coming in every day with all these launch-window units now failing (plus the ones failing as usual) so it would be a huge waste of resources to even check the roms. The dvd drive is the cheapest individual part of the system aswell. If it reads discs they shouldnt care more.

Definitely a mistake to open the 360, but its the first console that has ever broke on me so theres a first time for everything and lesson learnt.

Still I'd like to hear from somebody who has also flashed back to orig.bin, reapplied the sticker and how the warranty process went for them.

Im about to do this saturday. The console boots up fine, loads the games perfect. but it doesn't recognize any controler ever, and it used to. and it also displays SDTV in black and white and hdtv is fine. interesting enough, but I just want the controls fixed and have them send it back. The sticker is barely noticeably tampered, and there are marks on the back of the unit by the clips on the front by the sticker. lets see what happens. Got the box already, flashing it back on saturday. maybe tonight and sending back on monday. what is the average turn around time?

I had a broken hitachi v46 drive w/ error 0102.  The system was under warranty, so I didn't even bother with the heat gun.  I called 800 4my xbox and within 3 business days, I had the return shipp ing box that MS supplied.  It took MS 8 business days to fix it and another 4 days to ship it back.  When I got my system back, not only did I get a whole new system, but a whole new error.  No video displayed on my machine.  MS doesn't check too much, considering this hitachi had GaryOPA's firmware on it and the back clips were ragged to say the least.  Just be prepared to register the 360 you're sending in.  HTH, just my .02 worth

I don't think you read the post. He said he sent in his xbox UNDER WARRANTY. and got back a new xbox with a hacked firmware and different serial number. Meaning they supposedly fixed it but in all reality they did nothing..

On another note, I just had UPS pick my xbox up today. Hopefully I'll get it back just as fast. The only thing that they could spot is, there is not metal sticker on the dvd drive/case which isn't really noticable. and the warranty sticker is visibly tampered. lets just hope since the problem I have with my xbox is an old, known problem and that my xbox was made in 2005 that they will fix it regardless.

Can you supply warranty seals?? and I sent it back the other day. so we'll see what happens. If not, I'm going to send it to Team modfreakz and see what he can do with his expertise.
