Congrad's, Great Work!  Cheesy So if I'm reading correctly, the 3112 & 3114, both works under linux with the 3120 drive.  Grin

Congrad's, Great Work!  Cheesy See I wasn't crazy... Grin

This will help a lot of people because this chip is used on a lot of MoBo's... And makes my coallegue who borrowed me his controller hopefully very happy... greetings to the 1-man "crusader-ghandler-trap-but-blame-ssw-gang" Jörg S.  Wink

Thank you very much for the hint with the conflicting drivers, Slack3er ....

EDIT: Just an idea... Do you think that drinking another beer will fix my sata/pata converter?  Grin

Who know, lol, only one way to find out.  Tongue It took me a full day compiling kernels, just to figure that one out. Damn Sil Image.  Angry

Also the siimage driver, supports other verions of Silicon Image.. besides 3112 or 3114... Cool

I know, these are the supported ones (according to the source)

case PCI_DEVICE_ID_SII_3112: /* we knew that one */
case PCI_DEVICE_ID_SII_1210SA: /* never heard of that one */
                case PCI_DEVICE_ID_SII_3114: /* thats in again*/
                        return 1;
                case PCI_DEVICE_ID_SII_680: /* I assume this is a standard ide controller */
                        return 0;

maybe we can add some more  Wink

Do you know what we can try next.. I have some things still on the todo list:

1)challenge/response simulation (acc. to McD this will be a major problem, but:
when the 360 sends the challenge request to the drive, the drive has to decrypt this challenge in order to know what to answer.. so we should be able to find that in the firmware and generate the right answer..) Or is it possible to tell the drive somehow that it is authenticated? This should be possible because we can modify every bit in the drive's ram...
2) get the sata-sil beast running...
3) adapt the mn103 processor description to ida 4.9
4) modify the knoppix dvd that it includes all tools from SeventhSon and my mn10300 binutils package
5) try to backport the patches to 2.4 kernel (this will get very complicated... there are lots of interfaces changed) -> then we can modify a damn small linux distribution with the tools from (3) which has only ~60MB and can be uploaded to rapidshare...
6) suggestions welcome...

BTW: pata/sata converter still not working, will try another one....

Wow,  Sounds like Native Sata on the 3114 is working now?  That could help me LOADS... I just need to get Knoppix functioning. Sad

If anyone is able to help me figure out what the deal is with my knoppix disc, that would be immense.  My SATA > PATA converter isn't doing the trick.  (I had to hack the crap out of it to make the connector fit the drive because it was a dual connector so I can not guarantee it's even still operable!!)  I downloaded Knoppix from the torrents... if anyone knows where a torrent is active for the version probutus is using, let me know.  Or... if anyone knows where I can find it that would also be a great help!!  I'm getting desperate... if only I could afford a plane ticket to get to Cebit....

I had also to carve my first (still working) sata controller to size... only my new one is defective out of the box... Cry

Since I do not have windows installed anymore I can not exactly tell how this works with isobuster or winiso... Maybe someone is willing to help out??

@Dzxg216 Can you write what you exactly did and what the exact outcome was? Maybe we find the problem together...

The modified knoppix kernel only works with a sata/pata converter.. I still must do the recent adaptions to the knoppix kernel...

That would be Option (7) then...  Wink

I believe he's using the DVD Edition of Knoppix 5.0. I downloaded mine from newsgroups. The iso is like 3 or 4 gb.

Probutus something when you get a chance, can you make a knoppix kernel available. I'm not sure how to compile a kernel to be compatible for knoppix.... IF we can get a kernel, can't we just rip the knoppix root partition from the iso, then the iso will be 15mb's. Replace the regular kernel with modded one. You don't need to fully boot knoppix to get siimage to run. Then they can reboot to windows. But still try the other methods too.....

If you can do that, I will worship you... build idols in your name... and incur the wrath of god. Smiley

I'm having SO many issues with this thing.  I was VERY close to using the old (a)bort, (Retry) (I)nfluence with a large hammer option. Smiley

One other small, but stupid question.... does my 360 need to be connected to my TV for this to work?  It keeps shutting down after a few minutes.  I tested it to see if I had fried anything and oblivion loaded and played... and played... and played until I realized I needed help for my addiction. Smiley

Do you think the isolinux part is enough? Well, my garage-pc with the huge amount of 64MB ram always stopped before mounting the unionfs.. We can give it a try. But people should keep in mind to leave the bootloader part intact.... (that got me busted for the first time).

OK I'll do it; I grab some more beer and start compiling inside knoppix... but this will make me offline for at least one hour (there is no wlan in knoppix available...) CU in 1 hour  Wink It's your job to tell my boss tomorrow why I was totally drunk....

I'll help out with installing the kernel, with window iso tools... I would just need the kernel, to play with so I can tell him extactly what to do... I'll play around with removing, files.. I'm not sure my self..., But I think its possible, will see.. I'll TRY to upload the dvd of knoppix via bittorrent to Dzgx216... as a last idea... Have to think about this one...

I keep my 360 connected to my tv, it doesn't shutoff...

Good luck ... Wink

Dzgx216 utraiso should be fine ....  Smiley Thank us after you get your 360 drive booting on windows, LOL It's too early  Grin

Please realize this maybe go into a little trial and error ... I'm going to test each iso, to make sure its loads siimage, and it detects my 3112 card. My 360 is nicely under my tv, ATM I don't want to rip her apart again. So I don't want to do a full test, I'll make sure the iso correctly loads the driver. That should be enough for you... as long as ide-cd.c is compiled in the kernel..

First I'm going to try to make a 15mb iso of knoppix, if that don't load siimage, than I'll upload the full dvd of knppix. If you want to, say with bittorrent, my upload is 512k upload with no caps... So you should get the full speed of my upload... I really don't know a good place to get knoppix, the newsgroup link is probably dead...

Did I mention I'm studying psychology... specifically pathology and motivational psych?? *grin*  The more faith we have in each other, the more faith we have in ourselves, the more great things we can all accomplish as a community.

Coop,

Thanks for that!! Unfortunately... That's the Knoppix image I have and apparently the Kernel that Probutus has kindly provided us with is a different version than that one and all the modules/interfaces aren't completely compatible. Sad

Plus, I think I killed my  converter... Not sure on that front though, because my pc acts VERY strange and does lots of hanging when I've got it attached to test something.

If they get me native sata with mode B, I'm back in business.

@slack3r

Thats fine by me.  I'm lucky to be getting it all.  If you can't get it on tonight I'm sure my fiancee will be jumping for joy that I won't be in the office all night rebooting computers, swearing and cursing DFI for using NVIDIA chipsets in a colorful dialect of english.  I'll probably end up spending some time with her, and when she goes to bed attempting to tackle this problem some more or hooking up with my long-lost bar buddies who proibably think I died in a tragic accident involving methane gas, open flames and partial nudity. (disturbing, I know)

I am NOT too drunk .. my machine is simply too slow... Grin

Here is the requested link (as tar.bz2)

http://rapidshare.de/files/16266481/knoppix50_2.6.15.4-3114-3112-idecd.tar.bz2.html

I had to modify the kernel configuration this means that you have to replace the "linux" file AND the "System.map" file in the boot/isolinux folder of the knoppix 5.0 dvd

there are five files in the archive (just the source files pci_ids.h, siimage.c and ide-cd.c; they are only needed if you want to compile the kernel for yourself, then vmlinuz and System map these files need to be replaced (please rename "vmlinuz" to "linux" first))

Again: This is totally untested if you want to give it a try please use a RW medium first and since I had to remove the sata-sil support there might be some interferences when the unionfs is mounted and the complete knoppix module-dir becomes available but everything should work fine at least for the "reboot" trick...

Good luck...  Wink

BTW: I have to go to bed now, got a "general protection fault" in my brain...

You guys are making my day... (the last 24 hours has sucked and it's nice to have people help you out when they don't have to)  I'll be here studying the FW, and my plscsi command lines until the woman comes home.  BTW probutus, I use that method too... sometimes I end up falling asleep on accident though.

why not just create a small 2.6 based bootable distro (like, for example, the linux distro packaged with the mech/007 gamesave exploits that fit on a 32mb game save card- no need for any fancy gui's or anything. heck you could even write a simple bash script and let the user select from a menu by typing 1-5 to select what he wants done)? with just a commandline, the modified kernel and the tools it should be no more than 25-35mb, probably even less.
