When the wife or I try to play a game, it'll work for a while, and then just turn off. Is it an overheating issue? Or something I'm missing? Any help is appreciated.

Also, I forgot to mention. The only way I can get it to work is to unplug the XBOX and replug it. Then it only works until it shuts itself off again.

does it switch off if you knock it too? it could be a number of things really...overheating...loose connection somewhere.. short...etc.
I think its going to pretty hard for anyone to help you with this. just open it up and give it a good clean and make sure the fan isnt clogged... try opening it and tapping the mother board with something (like the rubber handle of a screwdriver) gently and see if it goes off when you tap a certain spot. it might need a new power supply even.

I wouldn't tap it with a screwdriver at all, just give it a good clean (be carefull an mindfull of components) and check that everything is plugged in correctly and stuff (cords etc), you can do numerous test to see if things are broken etc but this is just a basic thing for you.  You sound like you know a little but not enough so basic things first unless you have some spear money to throw around then try anything you want Wink  Yeah but I think that it's probably an overheating issue, keep it in a well ventilated area with lots of room at the back, if it shuts off it could be a short or something but yeah anywayz so many things it could be anywayz give it a good clean that should be right Wink
