Sorry, I wasn't getting the response in my other post as the subject was not relavent.

If I'm using a SATA->USB adaptor, do I still need to ground the xbox chassis to my computer chassis? If so, can I just use a ground wire inside of the usb cable and touch that to the xbox??? or maybe connect the unused ground wire inside of the sata sheath and connect it to a GND pin on the usb? any thoughts welcome.

It is a good practice always you connect (by any means, USB, SATA, IDE, etc) any device to you PC, ground the chassis of both with a croc

Indeed internally are grounded (the usb, sata, ide, etc have ground signals) but it is better to make sure.  More ground, more protection... also dont forget to ground yourself to the chassis of the PC with a bracelet to avoid electrostatic.  That would do a professional.

Which wire in the sata cable is not used? I know there are 8 wires, one of the ground wires are unused...which one? I am going to use that as a ground to the xbox360 chassis.

There are 7 wires on sata, 3 for ground and 4 for data, ground it with a croc or simply leave it as is... since sata already handles ground lines

actually. your right. there are only seven wires... I don't think i'll be flashing too much. Maybe i'll just solder some sort of metal chunk from the x360 chassis to the outside of my case so I can easily just clamp croc clips on it. better safe than sorry.
