I've been wondering if anyone has been able to desolder the tsop rom off the hitachi to flash externally without using an air soldering iron, and if so what exactly they did, my hitachi is bricked and I'm wanting to flash the rom externally with a programmer but I have no access to an air soldering iron, i'm well familliar with soldering with contact irons. or if it's not a possibility i'd like to know where to buy a 39SF020A-70-4C-NH PLCC rom to wire to the board as a replacement rom but havent been able to find anywhere to buy one as in quantity of 1, anyone have any ideas? would be most appreciated  Smiley

you can possibly get away with using desoldering wick or melting a big blob of solder to all pins on one side, keeping it liquid, lifting the chip slightly, then removing the solder blob with a solder sucker. you just have to clean up all contacts afterwards.

This stuff works wonders. Got mine at a place called Frys and is $15.00.

In case you didn't realise, you must encrypt the firmware before you flash it using the programmer.

Done that with Maximus Firmware Toolbox. Only thing maybe is. I used GaryOPA 2.1 the first flash. After that i flashed it with the Birdy flasher that bricked my drive. Now i took the gdr59.bin file from the X21-1234.OPA folder. The gdr59.bin didn`t have a key file in it when i opened in Maximus (it said 000.....00000). Then i opened the was.bin and copied the key from there and pasted it in the gdr59.bin.  Then saved it encrypted and flashed back to my chip. But i soldered it back but doesnt`work. The drive still wont open. When i press the eject button, the front led blinks very short and that`s all.

So if anyone has some tips or knows what i do wrong. I personally think the soldering iron (Weller /w fine tip) is/was the problem. As programmer i used a GQ-2X True USB Willem Programmer (www.mcumall.com).

I read somewhere that if the led flickers then the power cable for the drive is the problem.

There is a differnce between the 59d and 59dj firmwares.
You'll be needing a 59dj firmware to put your key in and flash back to your tsop.
Have you got a good backup?
You can see the differences with Windiff.
I had to lift my chip a few times before I got it right  Tongue
The last drive I did worked 1st time  Grin

Hi,

The only backup what i have from that drive is the backup files created by OPA - Xtreme v2.1 firmware - Hitachi 7in1 - v32/v36/v40/v46/v47/v58/v59. I have a folder named X21-1234.OPA which has 5 files. (59_21.bin, gdr59.bin, key.bin, now.bin & was.bin). But not a self made firmware backup.

Does anyone know if there exists a way to create a working firmware for a 0059DJ drive with the files that i have? And if that exists, if it can be reprogrammed with my GQ-2X Willem programmer?

    ---- key.bin   ---- DRIVE KEY /// DRIVE KEY
    ---- was.bin   ---- Your drive before FLASH <--------------------------------
    ---- gdrXX.bin ---- The untouch original fw
    ---- XX_21.bin ---- The patched Xtreme21 fw
    ---- now.bin   ---- Your drive after FLASH!
get hold of windiff and compare the was.bin with the gdrXX.bin
I can compare notes if you need.

I compared the normal gdr59.bin with was.bin but don`t you mean that i compare gdr59-e.bin with the was.bin? The gdr59.bin and was.bin tells me its different.

.\gdr59.bin : .\was.bin   different (D:\Xbox360\X-LG\X21-1234.OPA\was.bin is more recent).

I don`t have the encrypted file here but wil check asap.

Is it also correct that the gdr59.bin doesn`t have the original key in it?

Cyclops: any possibility that you could create a working firmware from the files that i still have? I really hope this is possible. It`s teh 360 of a friend of mine and i have it a bit too long so any help creating a working firmware would be very much eppreciated.

I tried Windiff but only gave me that the files were different.

Thankz in advance.
