Can anyone help me understand...

So we have to burn all games on dual layer becuase the system needs to see the layerbreak correct?

My real question is:
Since the firmware is being hacked to basically bypass the media checks, then wouldn't it be possible to just
force the firmware to say it found a layerbreak too even if there isn't one, allowing for games to be played off of
single layer media ? I guess I'm just not getting why you can't just make the firmware tell the system whatever
you want it to. Is that the overall goal with all these firmware updates or no?

My thinking is:

Insert disc, check media type, if dvd+r DL then check layerbreak, continue ... blah blah blah

Insert disc, check media type, if dvd+r then check for default.xex(360) or default.xbe(xbox) if found then (injected fake Layerbreak = 1234567 or whatever the last sector is on a single layer) continue booting for which ever platform needs to boot... 360 or xbox emulation

and it won't matter that a false layerbreak was given, because the laser would never have to access it since the game fits fully on one layer.

Wouldn't that work??? Or am I not understanding how it works at all?

cause a fake layerbreak would result in the drive looking for the data in the wrong sectors.
and most 360 games will not fit on single layer either way.

Oh, I was under the impression that "most" 360 games to date would fit on single layer, infact I've heard that alot of newer games will actually be smaller then its current gen counter part. Why would it have to look for a layerbreak if the whole game fits on one layer? that was my point if the firmware tells the system "oh yeah, there is a layerbreak at such & such sector even if there isn't one... why would it need to look for anything? I don't know, it was just a thought. I was hoping someone could maybe break it down alittle better for me so I can understand exactly the sequence that happens when a disc is loaded.

interesting approach.
I am not a coder but that's what I wonder also.
Btw, maybe "most" Xbox 360 games don't fit on a single layer DVD, but most "xbox 1" games surely fit on 1 layer DVD.
it would be great to have xbox 1 games on 1 layer DVD.
