Yes ! I've just played a backup DVD on a XBOX 1 without any modchip/softmod, just a hacked firmware This completes our work on the XBOX 1. The drive I modded was a 8050L. The good news is that the firmware in this drive is very similar to the firmware in the GDR3120, used in the XBOX 360. I think it's time for me to buy one now Thanks to all the contributors in the firmware hacking thread !

Wow good work. Just apply that same hack to the 360 and we're there, almost...
I noticed in the newest dash update they blacklisted the kiosk disk, maybe they could do somehting similar with the firmware hack (have the kernel hash the firmware, do more stringent auth. tests, etc).
As for the xbox 1 hack though, any change in doing something similar for the samsung 605b? I have a ton of 616T's laying around with that I could have some fun with... Although it will still load only signed executables, an exploit could easily be found to run a habibi signed xbe such as linux or a softmod installer, even xbmc. Although not much easier than SplinterCell or 007 or MA and a hacked gamesave, it would be cool to just put in a disk and see it run...

To hash the firmware they would have to rely on the drive to return a true image of its firmware and the drive is now no longer trustworthy, so that wouldn't be a good strategy.

Any chance you can release the details? Or are you waiting for a chance to look at the 360? In my opinion, it would be better to release now, because either way, MS already knows what you did. If you release details now, it will give people a chance to use it now, and it will give others ideas on similar hacks for the 360. If you hold the details to yourself, MS could "fix" the hack for both the Xbox and 360. But then again, they may be able to fix the hack whether you release info or not. I think what many of us are hoping for is the ability to play backups on LIVE. I would love this, simply because my Halo 2 gets scratched up all the time (I'm on my 3rd copy). A couple of the times, the DVD drive itself scratched it.

great job, Spec. But I am expecting a more elegant hack, to redirect the FD021E PSN to other accessable/burnable PSNs and burn the control data block to these redirected PSNs. that will be a more generalized solution for both xbox1 and xbox360. You really did a good job in this project.

This is indeed quite awesome news! Just a note to new visitors on why XboxHacker.Net exists (there are a lot of new people today!): XboxHacker.Net is back again for the Xbox 360. The goal is once again to open the Xbox for hobbyist software developers. Through a community effort, we believe that we can meet this goal once again! Although we understand the legitimate uses for backups, XboxHacker.Net's end goal is the ability to run custom software on the Xbox 360. There are many steps on that long road, and this is a big step forward! I must mention that XBH does not, however, condone piracy or the illegal duplication of copyrighted material.

well, if you would like me to try a 360 version of the code when its ready for you i have access to more than 1 360's here to sacrifice in the name of science (all the same it would be nice if it didnt stop it from working, im enjoying doa4 and rigde racer right now). I live just up the road from jumba whom im sure would be more than happy to help me out with experimental flashing on the rom. Also i know jumba has a romulator kicking around that he bought for the xbox1 drives that he could help you out with, i would suggest contacting him, he showed it to me once hooked up to a sammy drive and made it do all kinds of stuff. In a pre-emptive strike against a flood of newbies asking about when then can play "backups" I have restored the classic red XBH disclaimer that graced the old forums: Disclaimer: Anything Done to your Xbox is Done at your own Risk! # Do NOT link to or request copyrighted materials. # The hacking boards are for HACKING ONLY. This means technical information. # NEWBIES: Read the FAQ and read/search the board before posting! # This board is NOT for the discussion of piracy or related issues. Members making such posts will be warned and then banned. XboxHacker.Net is strongly against illegal duplication or distribution of copyrighted materials. Old-timers will remember this block of text no doubt :-) Ahh, good times...

So you're saying we can get banned for asking if this would allow somebody to play backups on LIVE. ?? That's what I want to know more than anything, as I play Halo 2 on LIVE a lot, but I always seem to scratch my Halo 2 disc (no other disc, just that one). It "lags" in menus all the time, and I am pretty sure a clean copy would help fix the issue.

Let's avoid getting too tangent in this thread...but what I am saying is I don't want all kinds of "when can I play backups?" or "how can I play backups?" posts flooding in due to this news bit being linked all over. As I type this, there are nearly 600 people viewing the main page...

congrats TheSpecialist. great work
to all the other people here who beleive this is a full hack: it wasn't but it was a proof of concept. It isn't a fully developed hack yet. It was specific to one game as far as i understand. I can see lots of rumors poping up and people confusing this with a full hack and you're just keeping it private then pestering for release... ect. which won't advance the development of this hack.
To the "backup people". please wait and see it isn't fully there yet just partly so. textbook your site says under your interests "Pirating Anything" so i doubt your motives are as pure as you claim. Then you even have to balls the have pirated software for download on your site. I would never beleive anything you say.
lets keep the technical threads technical. it sucks wading through layers of bull$#!t to get to the meat of the thread (sorry for this post not being technical)

well, bluecop, functionalwise this hack can work with any game without to be modified further more. Once the xbox complete the authentication process, then it's done. There is no correlation between the control block and the actual XBE to be executed. at least not as I know. But technical wise, I would prefer a more high level hack as I mentioned earlier.

Hopefully this will bring things back on topic. Yes I'm a newb that only came to this forum from the news on x-s, though I've been aware of the site for a while. I never wanted to interfere.
Lots of general questions but I believe they have technical answers: Is it possible for the dvd-firmware hack for xbox 1 to enable multi-region GAME play? I have a friend that lives in my building with a Japanese xbox (I live in Tokyo) and I have an American one. It would be great if we could share or system-link. Maybe it is possible already. We have never tried. Maybe I could convince some of my Canadian-Japanese friends to get hockey and then there would be someone else on xblive with a low ping.
Finally, does the Japanese xbox 360 have a similar drive to the American? Would it be possible to use (or modify) the firmware hack to enable multi-region GAME play? Would xblive be able to detect the fact that someone is signing in from Japan, on a Japanese xbox with an American game? Or vice-versa, would xblive detect that someone is signing in in America with a Japanese san-roku-maru and an American game?
I'd be willing to ship someone a Japanese xbox 360 at cost if they wanted to mess around with it. It is cheaper here, but it is heavy so shipping would be a lot. I would of course only do this for a moderator or someone the moderators recommend. I am not looking to open an export business.
