well, I got the game, and to no surprise the 360 won't run it.

I think tiros is right, i bet somewhere in the xbe it has a list of libraries or functions it calls, and if its a supported function/library, the game will boot. but if it reads an unsupported function, it doesn't even start the game. Just like Nemu which is a Nintendo 64 emulator, it will load the entire game into memory before executing the emulation. The 360 probably loads the xbe into memory before it starts as well.

The only way I can see getting any of this to work, Is to create some sort of drive emulator, and swapping the the data as it reads it. The hypervisor checks for overflows, but when does the system check the signiture? EVERY time data is read? or just the first time? and if its just the first time, where is the data stored once  in the system? is it temporarily stored on the hard drive? or in other memory? If its stored on the console, the data can potentially be altered after it has passed the signiture check. but if the signiture is checked everytime data is read from a file, that would stop this, but I can't see that being very realistic. Someone please tell me how this part works.

im still trying to get the xbox1 dash to run on the 360 and i have an idea Tongue

in some xbox1 game's (dont know witch ones) you have in some kind of way a function to go back to the dashboard. when you go back to the dashboard the 360 loads an xbe that sends you back to the 360 dashboard.

if the xbdash.xbe is replaced with the dashboard from the xbox1 inc. fonts and stuff and you use a game like this then you should maby be able to run the emulator i think.

we could also try to add to a game disk a command that wil send you to c:/xbdash.xbe .....
if you send the game to load from this location the xbox360 wil automaticle redirect to its own harddisk to the right file if its in place.

maby a long shot but its worth it i think, i would want to try it myself but ive run out of DL's and im not planing to but them anymore sinds im gonna wait for the new samsung firmware.

just my 2 cents.

I *think* I managed to get the xbox dashboard loaded by using an original Xbox utility disc (for wiping saved games and such). I remember saying "This shouldn't be working" to myself... I'm going to try and find that disc now. I have 3 oddball discs for servicing the original xbox, laying around here somewhere.

edit: it wasn't any of the xbox discs I have... Now I'm inclined to figure out exactly what it is that I saw.

I think I may have been remembering something that's already documented - something to do with the halo2 map packs, I think...

it's pretty futile trying to run it through the emulator, as the emulator has a database of games that work and those not on it will simply be told "xbox title not supported"

you would have the trick the emulator in to believing that the xbdash.xbe (default.xbe) was a particular game that it does support before it'll attempt to run it.

how about if we change some files on a disk to tell the box to run something from a location on the hard disk ? would this work ? if we got some mod in the game that tells it to load for example: e:/gamefolder/default.xbe

would the 360 execute this if the xbe is set to run from hdd ?? would be nice than we would have to burn a disk everytime we would want to try something..

and another thing:

on some xbox1 games there are update xbe's that also use fonts with it. couldnt there be an exploit possible in there ?

if it cant i would like to know it as soon as possible before i start waisting my recordables..

if the 360 looks at the library for all the supported xbe's it has to know there are update files on the disk, dont know how it will react to this. but i would love to find out :p

you mod, you break the signature.
you edit the xbe to allow HD launching, you break the signature.
the font exploits do not work anymore (buffer overflow protection).

why does everybody always say that the font exploiting always have to do a buffer over flow ? cant it be used for something else then overflowwing ?

nope, cause that's exactly what it does. there's only so much you can do with a file that's not executable in the first place.

Decryption and authentication of boot/kernel code occurs entirely within the
processor’s L2 cache using lockable ways
Partially encrypted/scrambled memory space, using page-selectable
encryption/scrambling. This allows for code to be encrypted but other data, such as
textures and sound data, to reside unencrypted and accessible to regular DMA driven
devices

I tried it, it doesn't work.

I made an iso of the xbox dashboard with c-xbox tool (with xboxdash.xbe renamed to default.xbe), and burned it to a cd-rw.

It tried to run the disk, but It gave the "original xbox game not supported" message.

I have a Samsung MS-25 flashed with Xtreme 5.1 (xbox file iso support)

Aren't there various revisions of the xbox dashboard? Maybe one of them works with the xbox360 emulator? It's too bad we dont have a list of the allowed .xbe files Sad

the xbe from the original dashboard is set to boot only from hard disk.

you would have to try to have an xbox game that will execute the xbox1 dashboard xbe from the 360's hdd....

but when you edit something on an xbox1 dvd you have to let it go to something like c:\xodash.xbe

and replace the xodash.xbe that is on the 360 hdd....

couz the xodash on the 360 hdd redirects again to the 360 dash.

I know is a bit trivial but I haven't read about hotswapping xbox1 games yet.
Anyway, it's just that seems too interesting there are some blacklisted games that won't run for whatever reason MS sees

They're blacklisted because of reasons like PSO being able to upload files to the gamecube.

what kind of logic is that? they're blacklisted on xbox360 cause you can upload files to gamecube?

besides, the games are not "blacklisted", they simply don't work on the emulator, just like about 200 other titles.
