No, because they found the encryption algorithm for the PSO, allowing them to trick the gamecube/game into thinkin that it was connected to an actual Sega server, when it was actually a homemade one. With already knowing this, M$ probably isn't going to allow the game to be played for fear of this happening with the 360.

the xbe from the original dashboard is set to boot only from hard disk. ...

About this, I understand that we need to launch an original .xbe, valid for the emulator. What you need to change could be through a second .xbe (you were talking about few post ago I think  Smiley), or something that can be launched once the first original .xbe is loaded. I don't see many chances without breaking the signature, though. Perhaps there's something like the "shaders exploit" for xbox games

you forget one small difference: on xbox that never happened and never will, since the main connection is still running through live and not directly to the PSO server. so that makes it impossible to simulate a server and inject code.

Back in my softmodding research days on the xbox1. We discovered there was an original xbox1 dashboard contained on a DVD Movie that had an xbox game demo on it. This .xbe was signed to read from dvd-rom media. Later tonight I will attempt execution of this on the xbox360 console. If it's an allowed titleid in the xbox1 emulator (as it should be with the update and downloader.xbe's being able to be launched from games). Will post any results obtained.

When Halo² is installing Update from XB Live with X360 you can see the MS Dashboard. Maybe it helps

How are games checked to be on the compatibility list? The XBE signature? The security sector?

can't be the SS, otherwise the dvd5 games wouldn't run on xtreme 5.x.

on xtreme 5, SS is generated... (the .xex must be unaltered tho...)

I think it's more involved than simply just security measures - a process based on XDK libraries compiled in.  See here http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?s=&showtopic=498241&view=findpost&p=3305790.

Has anyone tried this with a downgraded bios on the 360? I've read about someone downgrading the Xbox 360 Kernel to the backup version.

Maybe a combination of this and some sort of software 'backdoor' could potentialy lead to it being cracked. (Kiosk disc?)

Just my 2p's worth.

I thought the SS was only generated for Xbox 1 games when one isn't present?

That reading on Xbox-Scene was very interesting. I wasn't aware that anything other than the games on the compatibility list worked. I'm pretty convinced now that an application on the 360 checks the library calls that all the XBEs make against a list that the emulator supports to check for compatibility.

It would be interesting to see if we could get replace some of the demos from the OXM discs with full versions of smaller games, say the Star Wars/Tetris game that came out, and see if it works. I'm going to try it later when I get home.

I've been reading the thread and found it very interesting. About the TDBX.db file stored in the HD, do you actually know if it is protected with some kind of hash/checksum?
I guess it probably has been answered somewhere and that is very probably the file cannot be edited but some of the posts speaking about deleting it and getting things working, makes me wonder that something could be happening there and haven't seen really any post at xbox-scene about anybody trying to modify this file, so the compat list could be changed perhaps (if that is really the db). The fact that is about 150Mb, makes me think that it is impossible to store this at flash and that perhaps this file is also modified with every xbox1 emulator update on HD

thanks (and sorry for this stupid engrish  Tongue)

I'm going to guess that this file has all of the ported original Xbox libraries in it, which would explain it's size, but it wouldn't explain how people are deleting it and still playing original Xbox games.

Since theres a known exploit, I doubt it'll be on the compat list
