Has anyone thought of buying a 360 somewhere and hoping for the better Samsung drive, and then returning their other 360 system with the Hitachi drive in its place?  Are stores checking this sort of thing?  Serial number, etc?  I realize it's a bit unethical and mean to do to a place, but given the incompatibility of the Hitachi drive, it's a thought.  Anyone done this?

I actually bricked a drive in one I bought by mistake, and just returned it to Walmart. They checked the serial of the console but didn't check the warrenty sticker. I suggest removing it altogher if you cannot save it, most of these employees have no clue where to look for it. Heck, most don't even know how to remove the face plate. Just tell them it doesn't work (or keeps freezing is a good line as they probally hear that all the time). Good luck.

Hmmm, if they are checking serial, my plan won't work, unless I open them and do a total drive swapout -- I was hoping to just totally switch consoles.  Oh well.  My hitachi console is brand new too, just would rather have the Samsung.

Just try it, I doubt they will check that stuff at the store. Even if they do, tell them they must have wrote it down wrong. I don't think you'd have any difficulty.

The serial number of the console is usually printed on the receipt, so just switching the console will most likely not fly.  Swap the dvd drives.

At least reflash the drive your giving back to them with the correct key so it will work.

Swap the cases of the 360's. The serial is on the case.
