Does ANYONE know the function of the xbox 360 wireless adapter?

Like does it function as an actual wireless bridge taking the place as a wireless card, or is it just an antenna with a piece of firmware included that tells the xbox that it's connected?  'Cause I'm trying to figure out if I could just plug a USB antenna into the back of it or if I'm gonna keep having to use my motorola wireless bridge.  I refuse to pay m$ a 100 bucks because they're too cheap to include that little piece of sh*t hardware in their console.

it's a complete USB wlan adapter (or card, as you call it).
