Hi, i'm have a samsung TS-H943A with ms28 fw and i'm trying to extract the fw but it simply not alow, the mrkflash does not show any error. Mi BIOS recognise the drive, but when i type 1 on mtkflash (having connected the drive to sata1) the program start to scan channels but it does not show anything. What can i do? Any similar experiences?

i would also love to know if its possible to extract the firmware on ms28 firmwares. I am fairly sure i have an ms28 firmware (as i bought it a few days ago in australia) and if its an ms28 firmware, then voiding the warranty will be for nothing if it won't work. I was told before i got the xbox360 that any firmware version of the xbox360 is able to have the hack applied to it. I guess i was lied too

@ ts, you should see a error when you press the esc key. i'm guessing it's a status error.
mtkflash is waiting for a status 70 to return, but it never gets there, so it just sits there, doing nothing. i'm in the same boat, and i've been thinking about patching mktflash to skip the check, i've ran mktflash through a disassembler but haven't been able to find the correct comp/jmp so if any hacker with some more experiance could have a look into it...

What manufacturing date does your 360 has? I have one from the end of March and I would swear it's more quiet then the T/S I had before from end of December 2005. That could be the new FW then also I guess...

I know this sounds stupid, but could it be that MS can't detect the hacked fw and therefor made the newer drives undumpable? Don't get me wrong now, but imho I think it'd be better to stop teaching everyone how to do everything, because it would really ruin the x360 if they don't sell any more games... (just check out all those warez sites with the prepatched x360 games...it's sad...) Or do you want the x360 to become something like a second dreamcast?

It's accually kind of sad. It would be better if people used this more for backing up copied of the stuff they own, you know, like you should be allowed to. Everytime these hacks come out, people are like "wooo piracy time"... no good... its sad. I understand that Microsoft is this massively large company with lots of money but still, if they dont make money on these kinda things they won't release new ones and well be stuck reading books... I hate books. Just so you dont think im full of $#!t and i have 100 games i dont own, I have 3 copies of every cd i own (yes i own real cds) and every song on my ipod is on a CD that i have purchased. As much as it sucks to invest 70-80 into a video game it should be able to entertain you for several weeks if not months, and as the development costs of games increase, if we dont throw these studios bones every once and a while the only games for xbox will be halo pgr and fable (which are all great games but a little bit of diversity is nice)

I bought Quake 4 on Sept 22/05 and everytime i play it it doesnt let me down, i have 5 games (so thats like $300?) and i still enjoy every one anytime i sit down. Enjoy what you have, dont obsess about what you dont. I tell you tho, if i was samsung and i had an overstock of 162d or whatever those are i would have definately posted that fw was coming out to read the discs. good marketing i say.

Try removing the /m switch from the mtkflash command, ie:
mtkflash r orig.bin
Apparently, that has worked with the FW=MS28 drives.

Would anyone know if that is confirmed? If that does infact work with no problems, then i am very appreciative of sTix and anyone who has got it to work. I have tried searching my harest on the fw=ms28 matter and i havent been able to find if its 100% possible to apply the firmware hack with just one xbox360 in basically the same way as fw=ms28 drives.

grandparagon, do you have a 28 fw drive?
I don't have a 360 yet but I'm guessing when I buy one soon, it'll have the 28 fw.
If you have a 28 fw drive, I would try 'mtkflash r orig.bin' and see if that works. This command is only reading the firmware so if it fails, no harm has been done.
Let us know if you attempt it.

That's not completely true about the firmware version. I think it's still a random process on microsoft's part. I just bought a console manufactured in may 06 and it has the ms25 firmware on it.

grandparagon, do you have a 28 fw drive?
I don't know yet. I have been too scared to open up my xbox360 just in case it has the ms28 fw and i cant use the firmware hack on it (also because i was scared of voiding the warranty). But someone just gave me the advice that "they will be able to make a hack for the ms28 fw one day and you know you will void the warranty to apply it then anyway" and i think i've decided to just open up my xbox360 and check its firmware. But i don't have any torx screwdrivers on me, so i can't do it for a few more days yet. Im hoping i have the ms25, but i'll reply with the firmware i have when i can get the screwdrivers, lol.
