Hello everyone im new to the board and just like to say hello to you all it’s a great site Smiley I’m a little new to the upgrading HDD process so forgive me my question is it possible to use a 1TB size hard drive with the Xbox 360 are they compatible? As I’ve managed to get hold of a Samsung 1TB Spinpoint M8 HN-M101MBB and im struggling to get the Xbox 360 to recognize it at all? I’ve attempted the the FAT32 with guiformat but no luck it will just not appear in the system/memory in the Xbox 360 dashboard could someone shed some light on this or is a 320GB size HDD the largest possible drive compatible? Thank you.

Failed attempt Can't save drive firmware for later restore! DRQ Error: 0x0815 Huh?

Review the contents of the second image. HDD Hacker only supports Western Digital Scorpio drives.
You are trying to write a modified firmware to an unsupported HDD, so it will fail.

The largest theoretical size that the console can support is 2 TB. However, on unmodified retail systems, there are limitations.
It's a security measure, you can read more here: http://fatxplorer.eaton-works.com/security-sector-information

So in short, you need to use a supported HDD and you cannot have a size bigger than 320 GB currently. You can buy a 321+ GB WD drive, but the console is only going to let you use 320 GB, as defined in the Security Sector.

Feel free to post anymore questions.

Okay thank you for your response much appreciated I was unaware that the above software only supported Western Digital Scorpio drives Sad sorry im a noob!

So the conclusion is even with a 1TB Western Digital HDD drive it will only appear as the current max size of 320GB on the Xbox 360 system dashboard etc... As that is the current highest size Microsoft Xbox 360 supports? So pointless obtaining anything HDD larger then this correct?

I guess my next question would be is it possible at all to still use my above Samsung 1TB Spinpoint M8 HN-M101MBB HDD and format/flash it somehow to appear as a 320GB hard drive? So the console will recognize it so I can put it to use thank you. Wink

Yes. You may want to consider a 500 GB HDD because MS might eventually release one, and it will be very easy to upgrade in order to use more space.

It isn't impossible, but I just isn't easy. There is a reason HDD Hacker supports WD drives only. Each vendor makes their own HDD firmware, the code that controls the actual HDD and contains the model info, etc. Modifying this information, which is required, differs per vendor.

I know of no tools to write Samsung disk firmware, so you won't be able to use this HDD with your console.

Okay thanks again so its Western Digital brand option only noted!:) So if I replaced my current Samsung HDD with say the Western Digital WD10TPVT 1TB version it would be easy to just use the 320GB HDDSS.BIN file ?? Which will give me a option in the future if a 500GB HDDSS.BIN is realeased in near future? Is the WD10TPVT model the only 1TB they do as I cant seem to find a 2.5" 500GB version?

Ive looked at a few of the listed compatable drives see below just woundering which works best for performance and speed as some are 5400RPM and others running 7200RPM ?

Yes, that is all right. And look around the WD site and Google around.

The more RPM, the faster it is. Tests have been done and 7200 RPM HDDs do improve game speeds and such.

Before you buy a model, you may want to look around this forum and its many pages because I think that some newer models may be problematic, but i am not certain on that.
