Its pretty much because XGD3 uses 8.7gb when pressed onto retail discs/media...standard dual layer DVD's only go to 8.5gb so when you burn using the truncate method your missing 0.2gb ish of data.According to c4eva and co they do CIV (content integrity verification) checks on some if not all XGD3 games.Using burner max firmware allows you to burn 8.7gb onto an 8.5gb dvd.Dont ask me how that's done but there are some reports of people running truncated backups on live with no issue.

truncated games is ok to play but there's only one game you will have a problem and that's forza 4! there is one other thing you cant do is install xgd3 games to the hard drive as they with give you a failed to verify content error while playing the game but if you play direct from CD your ok!

Will I haven't tried it offline with a installed game to the hard drive but am almost sure it's the same result lol. The dashboard checks the same of the game while your playing the game and if it doesn't match the size expected then it will give you a fail to verify content error and will reset your xbox completely!

I already know that. What i would like to know is...
how can a game go from the start to the end if 0.2 gb of data is missing?

The XGD2 disc image will always have a fixed size of about 6.8GB net and as such are limited to this maximum limit.
The XGD3 format offers something around 1GB more memory (also net) and reached thus roughly 7.8GB.
So your not missing any game data with the truncate method. The rest is Anti piracy and random padding i believe.

You're right
Quote
Over the lifetime of the Xbox 360, games have become more complex, requiring larger assets. The new disc format known as XGD3—Xbox 360 Game Disc Version 3—extends the capacity of the game disc from 6.8 binary GB to 7.8 binary GB, precisely by 1,040,777,216 bytes. XGD3 formatted discs are compatible with all Xbox 360 consoles. There are no changes in title submission or the replication process. Additionally, XGD3 performance and reliability is similar to the XGD2 disc format, but with subtle differences in read bandwidth and seek times. With the additional space, titles can use higher quality or higher resolution assets to take full advantage of XGD3.
