Hi guys,

I need your help.  I need to connect my RGH Slim Trinity with FSD 2.2 to the internet without a router.  I am simply connecting my Xbox 360 slim to my PC via a lan cable.  Internet on my PC is coming via wireless usb modem (EVDO).  Can you help me set up everything so FSD gets connected and I can download covers, TUs, etc.

I am on dash 14699, FSD 2.2 (latest), latest dashlaunch installed with livestrong = false.  I am able to connect Samba in 360 Content Manager by putting 192.168.0.1 as my PC's IP and 192.168.0.2 as my slim's IP and vice versa for default gateway, and samba and FTP work just fine.

Now, can you tell me how I can make FSD 2.2 use the internet that is there on my PC (coming via EVDO wireless usb modem).

Any help in this regards would be highly appreciated.

Thanx a lot in advance. Desperately waiting for a reply Smiley

Edit: I read somewhere that FSD will use whatever network settings I set up in NXE/Metro.  Now, after I set up the above IPs, Samba and FTP work fine, but when I click "Test Connection" in configure network, it finds my network but says "PC not listed" or something like that.  What should I do next ?

are you using a crossover cable?

Hi,

Am not sure, so I took a couple of pics.  Here you go....

On the cable it says "ETL verified to EIA/TIA 568 Category 5 UTP 4 Pairs 24AWG Patch Cable SUNF PU"

Is a crossover cable different than a lan cable ? coz I think this is a lan cable, but am not sure Smiley

Edit: I did a little bit of research, and indeed, crossover and lan cables are different.  Here's what one of the guys said...

"If the pin outs are in the same order on both ends of the cable, then that there is a "non-crossover" cable, aka straight through cable. That means it would be completely suitable for connecting a computers NIC to a switch."

And I checked mine, and they are identical on both ends, that means this is not a crossover cable.

I will go out and get a crossover cable and be back as soon as possible Smiley

I thought crossover or straight-through didn't matter any more with the xbox. They convert this internally.

I think what matters is your IP settings.

Without a router there is no dhcp so I don't think you would get a decent IP address.

back in the day I used to run my xbox 1 through my PC via an add in card, and only a crossover cable worked in that setup which is the same as the OP

wasnt sure if this had changed, all i know is a crossover cable should work in this situation.

OP, have you set the "shared internet" settings in your PC side?

setting IP's etc is all fine and dandy but unless you allow the PC to share its internet connection, the xbox wont get an outside connection.

what OS you runnig on the PC?

You don't need a crossover cable, since xbox already have auto cross over feature. Just follow this tutorial http://support.microsoft.com/kb/978618/en-nz#InternetConnectionSharing

Woohoo!!!  I got it all sorted out Cheesy  Followed the above guide to the T but still couldn't get Xbox or FSD to connect to the internet.  Network was getting detected but not the internet.  Then, it hit me.  May be it's got something to do with the firewall.  I use ESET Smart Security and temporarily disabled the firewall, and FSD was able to access the internet Cheesy  I downloaded latest TUs of all my games and artwork, etc. Cheesy

I then modified ESET firewall settings to "allow sharing" for the Xbox network, and it's working great now.

Thank you so much for all the help guys.  Really REALLY appreciate all the help Cheesy
