New here!! open tray errors on both?

Hey guys, I'm Matt. I repair a lot of RROD's. Currently I acquired a 2007 model. Fixed the RROD. The disc drive doesn't work! It's giving me the "open tray" error.
I have another Xbox that I use for Netflix (because it has the same error!). I purchased a couple of lasers and they still didnt work.. in either box!
One is a Benq and one is a Liteon so they both use the same laser. I don't know whats going on here.
The Benq - When I put a cd in it revs for about 1.5 seconds. Then Open Tray.
The Liteon - When I put a cd in it just goes straight to Open Tray.
I know my easiest answer is probably "buy a new drive."
But I don't understand.. I have replaced the laser, the motor, even the spindle motor thing that moves the laser!
It's hard to believe that both laser's I bought are junk.
Any advice?

Believe it I've bought dozens of lasers from eBay etc that were junk
Buy from a reputable seller who offers warranty
The motors will not spin if the drive doesn't detect a disc so your wasting your time replacing them they rarely fail in my experience

I just had some old xbox parts laying around so I tried the motors. Wasn't a waste of time actually.. It took 2 seconds... lol
