I just finished my switch mod.

In original mode:
  • Xecuter Coolrunner off
  • 500GB internal HDD off
  • internal 4GB MU on
  • Winbond SPI active in drive with original firmware (MXIC with iXtreme off)
  • original NAND active

In RGH mode:
  • Xecuter Coolrunner on
  • 500GB internal HDD on
  • internal 4GB MU off
  • MXIC SPI active in drive with iXtreme firmware
  • XD-card NAND active with different keyvault and MAC address

Also SMC resets when switching modes. No need to disconnect power supply.
I used a 4xON-ON switch. SPI and NAND select wired directly to the switch. SMC as diagram below. Coolrunner and HDD with P-FET and 4GB with a relay (did not work with p-fet).

Wow, it looks like you covered all your bases, and made it one switch simple at that.  Well done.  Is the break between the switch positions long enough to reliably reset the SMC every time?

I tested several times and switched as fast as I could. The SMC reset happened every time. This was verified with changing MAC address.

Do you disable the cpld by switching only its power?
Its a bad idea to leave an unpowered device connected to active signals.

Yes. I cut 3.3V with a P-FET. Is it better to disable the POST_OUT1 signal?

I found a tristate data buffer from an other project. I'll use it for the POST signal.

you can use cory1492's modifed slim jed file to disable the cpld. that will require pin36 of the xilinx chip to be connected to a switch. more info at cygnos forum.

I disable the 4GB internal MU with a relay (P-FET did not work). I cut a trace (the left one) on the MU and soldered a relay in line.

Internal HDD is disabled with a P-FET. I cut the 5V wires going to the HDD and soldered a P-FET to the wires.

ok, i hope ill find the correct traces to cut.
just a idea, ive got no N-FET here, so i figured my own shematic.
what do you say about it, should it work? if reset is pulled up with low impedance it wont work. if its floating this should work...ill have to test this. (maybe go lower to 100/10k)
problem is ive got my trinity not here atm.
until weekend i hope im done with it Wink

I think it's too risky to tide it straight to 3.3v. Alternative to mosfet would be switching transistor. Transistor are widely available or you can get it from some useless toy or some thing idk get creative Smiley

ive desoldered tons of smd amps / transistors. now i found a NPN one.
J3Y is written to it - never heared about it -  tried pinout from other smd NPN´s and working for switch diode on/off Cheesy
ill try this one at weekend - damn part shop over here didnt had any npn or N-fets... so i had to find one myself Tongue

This is great but there's only one thing I don't understand why the hell is the LT FW only used for when you are on a hacked kernal. You don't need to waste disk's when your running a hacked kernal. You can put your games in GOD containers or just rip the files to a folder on your drive and boot it with an XEX Loader.

LT firmware in RGH mode allows me to copy backups from already burned DVD+R DL discs to HDD. I don't need LT firmware in original mode and wanted to keep the original mode as original as possible (fool proof for kids). Dual firmware was also something I wanted to try. Making an ultimate dual mode xbox. Changing the MT chip is no problem for me.

i would use these two different chips in my dual nand slim:
Original: NAND128W3A0AN6
Nand2:  HY27US08281A

im wodering about:
i found a difference between pinout: on Original NAND (NAND128W3A0AN6) there is pin 38 NC. on NAND2 (HY27US08281A) there is PRE (Power-On Read Enable, Lock Unlock)

is this a problem?

edit:
no its not!!
after i mess with pin length i decidet to install the second nand to bottom (wired) - all fine!

1 - switch between nands.
2 - reset SMC with NPN transistor instead of N-FET
3 - switch between coolrunner and 4GB mu
4 - switch HDD

thanks to all who helped me Cheesy
and especially Raiden for his wonderful tut

Is this right?

That NMOSFET is one of the one on the xbox 360 as an example
I can solder very well but reading diagrams I kind have hard time doing. Also will any NMOSFET do?

If you need to get up with me I am always on aim and over at www.360haven.com. If u don't have aim I do have msn but you will have to ask me to get on.
