Interesting... Could they be planning to do this every few days?/week now? Could definately be the end for backups...

Hardly a news is it? This was expected and as few other members said, fighting AP25 with re-burning backups is stupid, now its officially pointless.

Hardly a news? Up until this point they had been updating the ap2.5 challenge set purely with a dashboard update, was just a heads up to everyone who might not know. It doesn't really affect me, just thought it was interesting...

The important bit now is the intended frequency of these updates.. with no visual indicator to the end user.. Me thinks its game over + I failed to mention that the dae is supposedly unique to each console, so unless you want to RGH get cpu key/nand read-rerip (lol) - out of luck..

It is hardly a news because it was the only way for them to go, i'm surprised they don't update the CRL on-the-fly, but probably not that many entries anyway.

Thanks for the news, mattjk - I would have missed this if it weren't for your post.

That will be why I got an unsupported disc error today? There was me thinking the lens was on the way out. Ah well, ban hammer it is then. Wish I had time to see the site in work today, could have caught this. Thats what happens when C4E decides to take the piss out of the enforcement team in his latest release notes.

nice move by m$

everyone will have to constantly rip their custom dae.bin to grab correct ap2.5 resonses and god knows how many the table will increase to

pretty much kils off piracy as discs would have to be patched using each console specific dae.bin.

smart.

I doubt it will kill it, just means no XBL for backups or pirates. Doubt there would be much business for TX for purely offline backups though!
It's funny reading all the pirates crying because there not online with MW3, just as they were getting into it. MS have the last LOL.

Also remember non ap2.5 drives. Those xbox's could be worth a few bob in future (ones that haven't RLOD anyway!)
console specific dae is even smarter than I expected. Maybe they use the CPU key in an algo to generate challenges. But how can the unique challenge have a known response? The xbox would have to know the whole retail disk. maybe it could ask an XBL database with a virtual copy of the disk for the responses when it first generates the unique dae, or selects some random challanges/responses from a large database. I'm just thinking out loud here lol.

I might try this fix to one of my consoles that is still offline from 5 days ago. Only problem I have to undo for next dash update.

I'd like to hear from an expert (ie Tiros) on his thoughts. Whether this really is the end of back-ups on live... I remember him stating something similar when it was first implemented a year ago..

I'm pretty dumb compared to some of the high rollers on this site, but I cant fathom a simple way round for CFW.. (maybe easier for the ODDE type devices) but the fact it delivers the update silently (and if they plan to do this every few days/week) I don't know how you would evade this.. I guess WP Nand is an option but MS will get wise to that lol

Maybe it's time for everyone to RGH, move over to Xlink Kai and keep their Xbox Live subs in their pockets?

I think this is the way it is going, totally backfiring on m$. Now the ones who just want to play backups move to RGH instead, where m$ have no control at all.

looks like the older Xenons with samsung and hitachi's prices are going to go through the roof now!

time to get reballing guys!!

if ms can slip in a new dae.bin, im sure they can read the version on the console, so if you have the old one its prob a flag for a ban.

All samsung and v59 or lower Hitachis should be fine (although you can't get XGD3 on hitachi yet). They can't do AP2.5 checks as far as I know.
I have a Hitachi xbox too, but I have that as stock and just playing originals.

I've had enough of this cat and mouse crap anyway just for backups, only been back on XBL a few weeks on my lite-on xbox. It's not worth the hassle anymore.
