my xbox recently broke and i had to buy a new one.  i bought a premodded one with an xecuter2 chip installed.  i was wondering if there was any way of swapping my old HD with my new xbox in order to not lose any data.

Depends on the state your pre-modded xbox HDD was in. If it is locked you are going to have to do alot of fun stuff to get the HDD-key to unlock the HDD. If it is unlocked you can put the drive in your PC and mount it with xbox hdm and glean all your save-games from there.

I'm new to these forums so unsure about linkage to tutorials on what I've mentioned here.

You can link to tutorials no prob. Just not copyrighted materials (ISOs, XDK, etc)

after only four house of play...the drive is dead!!!  (sat for a year with collecting dust) then restarted it to play a game......
Opened the xbox....that was fun....took out the HDD....
not even a spinup from a computer test.....sooooo

Now!... I just need to know what ModChip will let me use an unlocked drive from another (already upgraded) Xbox..........Have an 8Mb identical one (xbox OS already on it)

What is the simplest fix for this?  (change dead for alive unlocked)
what modchip?  Aladdin? Xecuter? DuoX2?
I know I have to find a way around the EEPROM's Password thingy.

Dashboards.........EvoX? Avalaunch? XBMC?  Why do I need them? do I need one?
If I just want to put in a working HDD that already has xbox dash on it.
For now.... I just want my Xbox to be like before....  leave the real modding for later.

Llamma has "Reformatting" your Xbox Hard Drive...
and so does xbox-scene.com ........ and I've read "xboxhacker.net" and others until I'm blind.
but nothing about replacing it.... everyone else talks in "code" and like bigbrother is watching.

Everyone talks about how to format and get a 120Mb drive ready for mod use....but there is this big hole..... where is that next step?  new drive ready....what modchip?.....  is there any prep before turning on the xbox once chip & HDD are inplace?

I know that some links are a no no on this forum...... but there has to be a way to clue me in......

This reply is for LiXoGirL,

Ok first you need a solderless modchip ( easiest solution since it sounds like you just want to replace your hd and get your xbox back to its original state).

second your going to need a 8 or 10gb harddrive.

third your going to need an auto installer disk such as slayers 2.6.

Once you have these you will need to install your chip, and then flash it with a bios disk for that chip. Once that's done install your hardrive.

Then you will need to burn the slayers 2.6 to disk.  Once that's done you will need to boot your xbox with the slayers disk in the dvd drive.

Once the slayers menu is visible on your screen it has the option to format and rebuild your new harddrive to microsoft original.

Once that's completed it also has the option to lock that hardrive to your xbox.

Once done then you can remove your solderless modchip put your box back together and have it in it's original state.

hope that answers some of your questions.

ThanX Stryfe.....a lot

I need details....thanx...really....few people seem to want to help.

So.... I have the 8gb harddrive.....left over from someone elses upgrade
I'll order the solderless modchip.... (any preferances?)
do I need an auto installer disk (such as slayers 2.6) if the (new) HDD has the Xbox info still on it?
If I creat a slayers CD to put in the DVD drive.....how do I get the drive to open if there is no
dashboard...or does it see the dashboard from the (new) HDD....
does the option exist to leave the modchip in? (incase I want to Mod-More later.)

Thanx again for the help..... Kiss

To insert disk just power on with eject, that will open the tray, put disk in close tray and reboot the xbox.

Yes you will still need the disk so you can lock the harddrive to your xbox.  You can leave modchip in but remember to turn it off if you want to play on Live.

These guys are excellent dealers in modchips http://www.divineo.net/

And here is a link for some excellent xbox anything tutorials http://www.xbox-scene.com/xbox-tutorials.php

And another on modchips http://www.xbox-scene.com/modchips.php

good luck hope it all works out for ya.

Ok am i wrong in saying this, but couldnt she just get the MS Dash files and then hotswap that 8gb left over from someone elses upgrade.  If u need help on how to hotswap i know u can get that info from xbox-hq.com   Ive done in 4-5 times and its pretty much a breeze.  This would save u the cash from buying a modchip and another hard drive.  But please correct me if im wrong because i dont want to lead someone in the wrong direction.

I think u would still have to lock the harddrive to the xbox or eeprom if you prefer.

is it just me, or is your entire reason why you are posting these totally senseless messages to spam your highly homosexual "free xbox" scam link in your sig?

I ordered a ModChip and already have the replacement HDD (from an upgraded xbox).
Wile I am waiting I've done more reading......
It seems that I have to go to IRC to get the slaYer's type programs.
I have not been on IRC since I was 12, I did not even know it was still around.
I just want to put a new (replacemant HDD) in my broken xbox.......why all the cloak-N-daggerHuhHuh

details....help.....
What is HotSwap?...... Plug in the new HDD wile the power is on?Huh?
Remember I started all this with a error code #7
Would removing the eeprom chip work???

ThanX for any help.....

Here is the standard answer I'm getting in all my reading......
I ask, "Where can I find EvoX, SlaYer and the bios software everyone is talking about"?
The answeres I'm getting are:
    A"we have no idea"
or B"check IRC"
or C"give me your address and I'll stop by".

Now I'm guessing B
but I need help with details..........

thanX

Try going here http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=8962   Scroll down to about the fourt post, has a pretty detailed explanation on how to connect to xbins.

Just remember your not going to need to get a dashboard, just the slayers install files and the modded bios for your chip.

Also no need to hotwap nor remove eprom, should be able to install modchip, flash bios, load slayer disc in dvd rom drive, use slayers disc to lock hardrive to your xbox.   once done remove disc turn off xbox, turn off chip and box should be back to retail.

ThanX again Stryfe Kiss

I'm soooo afraid of the whole flashing thing, that I got a second modchip......
I ordered a "Aladdin XT"
and then I ordered a "DUO X2" (that the Site said is Preflashed with EVOX)
I will keep reading until they get here.....
and maybe check out IRC....I just don't know about begging people for copies of files on IRC.
I guess I will keep bugging you guys until I'm sure about what each step is, once the chips get here.

Thanx a ton....

No need to beg for files on irc, just read that link I gave you xbins has it's own ftp server but you have to join their channel and then msg the bot for the ftp info no begging involved all the steps are in the xbox scene I posted just above.
