danthaman, we are not foced to buy anything, but its good the option is there for those of us who want to use good tools rather than DIY. Or for noobs for that matter. Right now im unlocking MXIC with the russian method with jungledlasher, as soon as i get the trident i will use that with lizard. Right now im using geremias method to unlock winbond with lizard and dremel (2 out of 2 sucess rate right now). As soon as there is a safer and easier method i will use that. I choose to use porf. made tools to make my life easier There is allways an option not to buy anything. I totally agree: It's important to always use the best tools you can afford! and the trident is certainly well-made! it's already top of my shopping list... I shudder to think of the 3 other more dangerous ones!(solutions) Like, you said: DIY ala Noob is out of the question on this one :p But I can see myself now: Getting the messed-up ones in and having to fix them, better try and order some more of those unlock chips! Damm if only there were some around ... SW method I'm sure3 will work it's way out eventually ;-)

Great work, but problem running this program, win xp:
unlockSPI.exe XXXX WinIO initialized and running
ATA Timeout, status 51 Waiting for a drive repower ATA Timeout, status 51 Waiting for a drive repower ATA Timeout, status 51 Waiting for a drive repower ATA Timeout, status 51 Waiting for a drive repower (repeats)
Same if I repower the drive. Tried with VIA 6421, ICH7 and x360usb pro.

please reboot and run dosflash32 1.9 , after do it run unlockspi , try this methode and post the result please I tried these steps, dosflash32 1.9 finds the drive on the port (manuf. id 0x00, device id 0x00, firmware revision 0225). I then close dosflash and run unlockspi, but result is still the same, status 51. When I remove the power, "ATA Timeout, status 80 appears", when power is connected again, it goes back to status 51 loop.

what pin are we actually disconnecting by this? if it works with the drilling and cutting maybe it could work by removing the epoxy and just lift the pin and then poke it with the resistor connected to 3.3V. just need to know what pin it is and maybe a datasheet for the MT1335 (realy hard to find).
is anyone else curious about the other 2 methods geremia spoke about?

Don't know if I understood you 100%, but dosflash pops up a window saying "MTK vendor intro failed, retry?"

Yes, I guess the problem is in controller compatibility, since I get no Flash Chip Properties in Dosflash, ever, reboot or not. Always shows popup. It's the old Asus p4p800 mobo, ICH7 based.

ffs Why are people asking this question all over the net, on TX forums etc. The problem is the WP gnd is SHARED with two other connections, so simply LIFTING and pushing 3.3v through the external pin DOESN'T WORK due to you messing up other circuits with it. The point of the Geremia hack is that you disconnect ONLY the WP gnd wire, while simultaneously pushing 3.3v (raising it from gnd to high), along with looping software commands causing an unlock.

go buy a cheap ass sata to usb adapter -- a non powered one.
you then boot the drive connected to the usb to sata adapter, open the tray close, then connect the sata cable to your comp as its looking for the drive. Voila

First of all, you did not answer any of my questions. no disrespect to geremia for his work as it actually works but it YOU think that feeding 3.3V trough a resistor to ground could kill other components on the board, what do you think happens before the bond-wire gets cut? does the voltage hits the ground? yes it does. and after the drilling and cutting you are told to use a electric lighter to get the unlock-status, how many volts do you need o get a spark like that and how do you know it only hits the wp-bond-wire? you could compare it to a electro static discharge. if you dont have the answer to the question, why do you answer?
