Did a little research and it seems that most of the chips are coated in the same plastic as a billiards ball is made of.

Found that sulfuric acid will dissolve this. (Dangerous)

I may run down to the local auto parts store and see if they still carry battery acid aka sulfuric acid on the shelf.

If they do I have an old xbox 360 mother board. Ill try dissolving a chip on it. I dont know what effects that might have on the internal chip if any but if it works it would be an alternative to drilling it and may make it possible to soilder to those traces to make it easy to unlock and lock in the future. Reason being that Microsoft may be able to detect if the chip is still locked.

Thats why you relock the chip after flashing.

I understand that but whos to say after so many times of hitting it with a drill bit or hoping a high voltage spark from a lighter wont do enough damage that you cant unlock it again.

I know FW updates dont come to terribly often but it seems to me that MS is trying a lot lately to shut this type of mod down. Weve had 3 different firmware updates (1 coming soon for 1.91) and a 4th on the way end of this year LT+2.0.

Why not have a more controllable option. Plus if it works it will be cheaper than going and buying a drimmel tool.

If you missed it I found that the static from a cue tip cause it to unlock after its been drilled as well. Dipping it in isopropyl alcohol seems to make it that much more effective

Grin Now  C4E can use AGAIN you Bigest Solution to Unlock this LITE ON 16D4S Like you solution with TARABLINDA, but, I think Sputnik will leave orbits before the hour LOL.  Grin
But their maybe can use again you Tricks to Welcome JF 1.86, like C4 says. ( Soon ).

Thanks GEREMIA you later, but not failure!

I Used an Hobie Kit ( Portable Drill Kit ) and Smoke Lighter,

Tip: if anybody here doesn´t have a Drill, just use these small motors
which comes inside radio control mini cars, these can be usefull when the cash is low.

Thanks everybody, and sorry for my bad english.

I am likely one of the least handy persons to ever pick up a Dremel.

That said, I managed to cut the hole, unlock, flash and lock.

It took me a fairly long amount of time to cut through the chip, over 10 minutes.  I was being extremely cautious, taking breaks, etc.

Finally managed to flash the 0225 with JF. But one big problem now:

- backups work, so flashing was OK
- tray close works (albeit it closes very rapidly, in less than a second!)
- eject won't work, have to eject manually. It twitches just a bit and stops.

I don't think it's mechanics problem. Anyone hit that problem yet?

witch eject doens't work? the one on the consolle? try to eject with pad function. check the frontplate, maybe some wire in out of normal position. post feedback of your try.

Stop posting nonsense, the solution was allready given by Riku

Just an idea with this kamikaze mod.
What about if we drill just a little and then add a drop of sulfuric acid and let it work. would it not be safer? I allso have up to 800x digital microscope
I might try it if i get back from my vacation next week.

Hey guys i have a question: Can i splice the wire with the 100ohm resistor to the 3.3v wire in the power cable, or does it have to be soldered to the board?

Try this, it helped some people to fix eject/closing problems.

Wow, that solution works like a charm! Thanks a lot, you made my day. Tried with 66 ohm first, didn't work, then it started working with 50 ohm resistor.

But I'm getting the Open Tray error now (will trouble ever stop?), immediately after tray close. I'll wait for a new iXtreme later today and then we shall see...
UPDATE: had to put in all 4 screws instead of just 2, open tray error went away.

I tried this yesterday and posted it was sucessfull but i used a 68 ohms resistor

Today i tried turning and it wont eject anymore, tried with a trimpot set to 51ohms and no go

i think the 68ohms might have killed something

How much watt resistor you used? If it's not enough, It may get burned. Try to replace it with bigger one.

Does it still spin the dvd and launch games? Or only problem with eject again?

When I used 66 ohm SMD resistor, it actually desoldered itself, so power drop is substantial on it (didn't take any measurements though). Two paraller 100 ohm resistors, which makes a 50 ohm resistance did the trick, ... so far.

Staff speaks!
I have several drivers aki just right and 0225 left over to making the holes.
Some I made the hole, ran good, others took issue drawer.
Came to an XBOX Unlock ...
Driver got it done correctly, cutting track ... took to the PCB and testing I did with the hole ... aki
I did the first plate, hole, has not put ta 0x0 status by opening the drawer, there did FIX the drawer and now it's a good opening and closing the DVD spinning ta normal.
Now another here, with this 0x0 Status tmb, Drawer does not open, I did FIX the drawer, it worked but the engine does not turn ...
Broke a track inside the chip, do not send power pro engine
That f***ing ta
chip that is because I made the soundtrack to status 0x0 is almost on the surface of the chip
chip and has the track gets to the bottom but it varies a lot ...
