I think he "sandwiched" the SPI's Yup. Look at the picture and you will notice the MXIC chip is above the Winbond chip.

Why are you shorting 3.3 and GND? MT1339E should come with WP disabled.

I think iuli_psx got a short between GNS and 3.3V and he is trying to fix it. It's a good habit to measure such shorts before powering up a fixed board. I have fixed a few boards and never had any such shorts after checking the soldering and measuring. no idea where it might be. Have you looked the IC legs with a good loupe or magnifying glass?

If i was able to fit an mt1339e into a fat liteon's mt1319l, would this work? I'm trying to find a way of having dual firmware on a fat liteon drive.

And what is the meaning of that link? You advertise your reballing service? You found a way to play originals with an external dvd-player? You found a MT1339 chip and a SPI memory?

Probably not. But there is mt1309e (same pinout and package as mt1319l, no internal spi, also supported by dosflash) which could work (with external spi) - I never had enough time to find out more about this or give it a try. Mt1309e can be found in some asus dvd drive (DVD-E616A3 I guess, kinda old so it can be tricky to get one). DVD-E616A3 seems to be ide drive not sata so I'm full of doubt about this. The problem obviously needs more research.

I think he "sandwiched" the SPI's Yup. Look at the picture and you will notice the MXIC chip is above the Winbond chip. From the pictures i couldn't quite figure out how you are switching between spi to use (and to write fw to it). What is the wiring for the switch ? Did you include it on your nand switch or is it a dedicated switch for the drive spi ? Thanks

The SPI mem. is selected with pin1. Pin 1 from both chips go to the switch and the switch center pin goes to the PCB place 1 (see image on first post). There are 10k pull-ups on both chips pin1. I first installed the Winbond SPI chip (drive got winbond originally) and flashed the original firmware to it. Chip pin 3 was pulled high. Then I software and hardware locked it (chip pin3 to GND). After that I soldered the second MXIC SPI chip in place and left chip pin 3 high. I flashed iXtreme and left it unlocked. I used two different SPI chips so there is an extra indication whitch chip is active (JungleFlasher shows the ID). I use the same switch for selecting NAND, drive firmware and activating/disactivating Coolrunner, HDD and internal 4GB mem. It's a 4PDT switch. http://search.digikey.com/us/en/products/1004P1T1B1M1QEH/EG2428-ND/378897

thanks, so to update ixtreme in the future you can put the switch in the ixtreme position and reflash the spi ?

Yes. The MXIC chip is unlocked and can be easily reflashed. THe Winbond chip is SW and HW locked so flashing it requires soldering.

Thank you very much, so basically i was thinking of using an xecuter white pcb i have here to flash original then lock it 0x8c flick switch to wp=on , then mount an extra spi i got it off a benq drive on top of the existing one (bending pin 1) to flash ixtreme to it, cut pin 1 from the board spi (or a trace) to install the spi switch in between. Only question i have is: i understand that the xecuter board wp switch will work on both spi since is connected to other pins, if that can create an issue regarding the onboard spi with the stock fw (if the switch acts in the added spi with ixtreme i was thinking of that i can just keep it hard locked as well until i need to update the hacked fw).
About the 10k resistors i was thinking of using 1/8 soldered directly on pin 1, so only wires go to the switch, i will not make it a joined switch with nand, will be a dedicated one just for the drive so there is the option of hacked fw on stock nand as well. The other switch will have nand, smc and glitch chip.
Please let me know if you think something is off on this train of thought.

hi, ive done ten replacements of original MT1335WE chips to MT1339E before (fist delivery of china-chips) everything has been fine... ...till today - the second delivery of 20 pieces arrived. all but one chip has low resistance between Vcc (3.3V) and Vss (GND)!!! the damn chineseman fu**ed me! does somebody have had such a delivery too? - maybe a hole production line does produce this useless bullsh**. damn.
