When I try to visit the forums on my mac I keep getting the following error:

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 33554432 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 16578717 bytes) in /home/xbh360/public_html/index.php on line 26

It happens in firefox as well as safari, but not on my android phone which I'm typing this message on.

Any ideas what's going wrong here?

Glad it isn't just me.  I get the same error from my home connection and on my phone.  The forum is fine though through my work connection or when I use a web proxy.

Did some testing and same here, some machines/devices do work properly and the ones that don't apk work with web proxy.

Mac at work in firefox and safari: need proxy

Android phone: works on mobile connection and home wifi

Windows machine at home: works

It's clearly linked to the connection rather than the computer or software.

I would usually put issues like this down to a routing problem, however I wouldn't expect the error message we are getting.

I note that a DNS lookup gives 64.22.111.74 but this resolves to a cPanel holding page, even on connections where the forum works fine.  What am I missing?

I got the same issue

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 33554432 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 17281210 bytes) in /home/xbh360/public_html/index.php on line 26

and I can confirm this is most likely due to ISP and/or connection.

I tried on PC and 2 i-Devices via my regular cable ISP and I do get this error message then.

When I try it using my backup DSL line and the same PC it works fine however.

If I use a proxy with the cable ISP it works too.

Update: 2 people that I know that are using the same cable ISP that I am using are getting the same error message.

The server error is real, it's just that the ISP has a transparent proxy enabled (or it is enabled in your operating system) to save bandwidth cost, which uses a flawed logic that favors caching (smaller) error messages rather than the normal (larger) page. This means you get the error a lot more even when the web server is ok.

Solution (server side): The xboxhacker.org server needs more RAM or some tweaks in the php/mysql settings.

Workaround (client side): Try clicking the reload button with SHIFT key pressed, or disable/bypass the proxy if possible.

The shift reload thing doesn't work for me. Seems my ISP has a transparent proxy and I can't force it to reload.

I will just browse the site in a VMware machine that uses my alternate ISP as gateway then, but it would be great if in the long run a solution to rectify this issue on the server side would be found.

update: can't u just output a badass real long error message when this happens, so that the transparent proxy is forced to rather cache the real site  Grin

if i stay logged from one session to another, without clearing the xboxhacker cookies, when i click on "Show unread posts since last visit" don't show anything.

Only clearing all cookies and loging again i can see the topics updated from my last visit.

Tico that is a seperate issue, this thread is about the fatal error.

I read about the fatal error on this thread a few weeks ago. Had no problems myself until today in work, I couldn't access the site all day due to it, found other ways to kill time though :-) but it would be nice to get it resolved. Doesn't look like siliconice is around much these days, may 5th he was last on the site.

I have been discussing this on my ISP's forum.  Basically it works for everyone else who has tried and my ISP can see no problem at their end.

I wonder if the server is only falling over with certain IP address?  Where is siliconice when we need him!

Well currently at my desk I have a company build machine connected to the LAN which runs through a web proxy, and I am receiving the error.
Next to me is a clients laptop that is hooked straight into the company wifi without the proxy and I am not receiving the error.

i get the problem at home on my ISP but my brother one the SAME isp doesn't get it.. i get the same error on works (different ISP).. and at a clients site (again different ISP).. it all used to work just fine everywhere  Huh

only way to get it to work is use Opera in turbo mode (so browser uses their proxy)...which is far from ideal :-(

I have this problem with Uverse

If I use a pc that has a private IP adsress, like 192.168.x.x , I get the error.

If I use a pc that has a public IP address, like 63.79.x.x , The site loads fine.

Seems to be some kind of NAT issue

This error has persisted for months and thought I would never visit this site again. Only opera with turbo enabled let me in the door after reading another forum about the issue. Thank God I need to keep up to date with the Russian hack progress.... I thought this site had been hacked.

Same with me.  I think it's only SiliconIce who has access to the server and he is rarely around.

@Arakon - are you able to contact him?
