This X360Key has embedded Linux which is emulating the drive. I think we must input the dvd key to emulate a proper DVD drive. As for the ISOs, there are three buttons on the device and maybe they are for switching in between ISOs. But doesn't xbox360 games have a media flag ID which wont boot if we try to boot game from media other than disc?
As for the banning, It is like saying welcome to the ban. In Pc there were many protections and one was used to load fake disc images through various tools like daemon but the security got more tight and it is detected while online and user is blacklisted. So my theory is Xbox 360 has more sophisticated security tech and it will eventually end up in a ban.
But what are they using to emulate as linux was always here from the first exploit to jtag. Is there any glitch or exploit in the latest dashboards and can MS fix it. Also can it be cloned like the jailbreak devices?

Oy. I think we must input the dvd key to emulate a proper DVD drive. I agree. If this device connects as a passthrough on the SATA line, I don't see how it can work without being given the dvd-key. I don't see how this can be captured over sata alone. But doesn't xbox360 games have a media flag ID which wont boot if we try to boot game from media other than disc? Yes, which is why the device emulates a dvd-rom drive. The console thinks it's playing from a disc. In Pc there were many protections and one was used to load fake disc images through various tools like daemon but the security got more tight and it is detected while online and user is blacklisted. So my theory is Xbox 360 has more sophisticated security tech and it will eventually end up in a ban. Daemon Tools is software-based drive emulation that runs on the computer itself, this device does not run software on the xbox itself. Comparing these is like apples to oranges. And across platforms even, apples to asparagus. Asking for a ban, though? Probably a total crapshoot, going back and forth just like modified dvd-rom firmware. But what are they using to emulate as linux was always here from the first exploit to jtag. Is there any glitch or exploit in the latest dashboards and can MS fix it. Also can it be cloned like the jailbreak devices? This has nothing to do with the JTAG (or any other) hack. It does not exploit the dashboard as it does not run any software on the xbox. It simply emulates the dvd-rom drive. There's actually a device like this for the Wii already (WODE). (Wii has less security to deal with.) Cloned? This is not some simple usb device spitting out bits. You can't just write it to a teensy. This isn't even out yet, and you're already worried about getting it cheaper...

According to ozmodchips the x360key will be able to extract the key itself: "The great news is that the x360key will be able to extract the key out of every compatible drive for you! " Source: http://bit.ly/m6rc0n Will be interesting to see how they are handling phat LiteOns, especially after the next Dash when the PMT Method no longer works and MRA is the only way to get your key... Btw. the XODE is legit, check the wodejukebox forum.

That's probably why it says "every COMPATIBLE drive".. meaning that it will just put the drives that can't be extracted as not compatible.

Will this drive remain compatible with the X360 even after the dashboard upgrades? Like the new disc format dashboard or more in the future? Can MS block this device or because this is an emulator and xbox think it as a disc drive, will xbox be able to detect it?

In a ideal situation it should be impossible for the console to detect that it's being fooled by something connected on the SATA port. The point of protections like AP25 is make such a method detectable by making the amount of challenges and responses unpractical and impossible to mimic. In the end it goes down to the willpower of each party on pursuing the objective of countering the opposing side moves. Typical cat and mouse game of hacking...

At least know we know how they will be getting there keys. There will be a "built in 360 lizard": Development Update: Maximus 360 Lizard partnership announced! Posted on May 1st 2011
We are very pleased to announce that x360key has licensed the key extraction technology used in Maximus Lizard. This means that x360key will be able to extract the unique key from all Xbox 360 drives; Samsung, Hitachi, Benq, Liteon, and Slim Liteon - including the latest 0225 model.
Xbox 360 DVD Drive firmware flashing is *NOT* required to use x360key. However, this is a feature that may be added in a future x360key firmware update. Source: http://bit.ly/mPB6px

Every penny? In order to safely play pirated backups on Live?
Wouldn't you rather see a major kernel mode exploit that would work on ALL xbox360 consoles? That would motivate developers again to work on their projects. I bet the new video-player would get more love inculding linux and new emulators. Imagine linux and the new video player on the slim... Man that would be worth every penny.

I understand. You found paradise in America, you had a good trade, you made a good living. The police protected you and there were courts of law. And you didn't need a friend like me. But, uh, now you come to me, and you say: "Don Corleone, give me justice." But you don't ask with respect. You don't offer friendship. You don't even think to call me Godfather. Instead, you come into my house on the day my daughter is to be married, and you ask me to do murder for money.

We are very proud to announce that xK3y is now finally in production. The first stock will be shipped to distributors who placed their orders during our pre-order period by the end of August.
As you may have noticed updates on xK3y progress have been scarce lately. Very late in the testing we noticed that a certain Slim model just did not want to be friends with xK3y. This last month we worked around the clock making sure that everything works flawlessly. There is a good thing that has come out of the delay as well. Software 1.00 has a lot more features than we initially planned for launch.
While the hardware team has been busy testing and fixing the last bugs the software team has made astonishing discoveries, and some unique features that will never be possible with any CFW may be possible in the very near future. (We wont elaborate more on WIP for today but expect more soon!) I just wonder what these new discoveries are?! I am expecting mine in the next 10 days according to oz
