Hello,

I've got an problem, ill try to describe it so maybe someone will help me out. Smiley

I had an old console with broken laser lens (Disc would spin up for a sec, then nothing), messing with poti's helped for a month or two.
I had an brand new liteon drive lying around, so i disasembled it, and noticed that the lens are looking quite the same (think they are the same pretty much?).
So i took it out from the LO, and installed it into the Benq drive (Spoofing is no-go - LT), the drive started to read the games, however the loadtimes went up by alot, and the graphics seem to be worse(?).

i.e.
Driving in GTA  - after a while i end up seeing only my own car and the rest slowly loads onto the screen.
Fifa 11 - The graphics seems to be more.. well square-ish and noticeable slower.

Did i miss something while replacing the laser? Is there any software side of the procedure? Is there anything i can do to fix that, or maybe its the console sending signals of upcomming RROD?

Thanks in advance, Sav Smiley

the lasers are the same between liteon and Benq - HOP141

the laser you replaced may well be worn also

they are pretty cheap to buy, why not get a new one and try it in to see if there is an improvement

graphical glitches do happen when the system is about to RROD, but its more like crazy colours or checkerboard squares etc

That is possible as the drive was from the times when we had to replace V1 L-O's with other drives, so i dont know the exact story behind it.
What bothers me is the quality of graphic that went down, i can understand longer loading's caused by worn out laser, but this? Disturbing.
Ill try to order new lens and see if that helps.

you can also adjust your lens angle with the screws that are under the rails. there is usually a green or blue epoxy that holds them in place, but the screws can back out which in turn moves the laser either closer or further from the disk. i haven't had to do this on many 360s, it is far more common to the ps3 it seems in my experience, but there have been a few 360s on my bench that required the angle to be adjusted. if you hear the lens clicking on the disk, back the screws out 1/4 turn, if you hear no clicking, run them in 1/4 turn. once your satisfied with the performance of the drive, a dot of superglue (small dot) will hold them in place.
i usually start with the screws closest to the spindle motor, and test. if that didnt seem to help, i try the screws furthest from the spindle motor and test again. i find it much easier to work in pairs this way and turn each screw in the pair equally.

the screws will be marked as well as the drive body to show where the screws should be to have perfect alignment
