Hi there,

got a totally roasted 8xx v1 drive (someone tried to update from LT1 to LT+ without having the orig data). Well, he obviously had to use the MRA hack and messed it up completely. The pcb of the drive is fubar, now I want to solder off the Flash of the drive and solder it onto an older 7x liteon drive for proper key extraction and dumping. Then on to a virgin drive. Would that be possible (especially my question regarding using an 8x flash on a 7x drive pcb)?

Thanks in advance

ok, sorry - didn't mean to act dumb. I did some research, found some pics of decapped flash. Why would I want to do that in the first place? I just plan to either transplant the whole thingy onto another drives working pcb, do the mra and presto! or to desolder it and read this guy via eprom reader and flash the encrypted firmware onto the other drive's flash and then do the MRA? Am I thinking into the wrong direction? I don't want to give up on that drive + I think I would learn something.

If there was a way to "just read via eprom reader", all the MRA mess would be unneeded in the first place.
You'd have to replace the whole controller IC.

Ok, thanks - so no reading via epromreader. would I only need to transplant the epoxy-surrounded flash, or also the other (smaller) one left to it?
