i'm not talking about the AT90USB1286 MCU but the teensy 1.0 MCU: when i read this : http://www.pjrc.com/teensy/schematic.html for the teensy 1.0 i can see "at90usb162" (third schema) and this http://www.atmel.com/dyn/products/product_card.asp?part_id=4097i'm just wondering how put the 33kb in the 16kb memory program. I found this on http://lan.st/showthread.php?t=3221I am not sure, just pulling straws here, but maybe the .hex is a raw file, and which the Teensy Loader loads the .hex and programs the Teensy it may not actually be 33kb?
For example, the .hex may be the intructions the Loader needs to program the Teensy, where the program is smaller than the actual .hex. Edit: ok it's fine

Teensy 1.0 is based on an MCU at90usb162
this MCU have 16ko memory program but the teensy.hex as a 33ko size Sorry, should have specified that I have the 2.0 version. (ATMEGA32U4) hxxp://www.ps3-hacks.com/descriptor.h 4 ASCII characters were changed from 'xxxx' to 'bdvd'
Thanks, I found that not long after I posted. I'll have to check it out.

I honestly don't see what you could cut out of the schematic. If you remove any of the capacitors, you lose stability. If you remove the resistors, you lose USB. If you remove the external oscillator, you lose USB. Just about the only thing that can come off is the LED and its resistor. Although the ps3groove uses that as an indicator for the exploit having worked.
Ok thanks for looking. Its just that the original jailbreak only seems to contain the chip, crystal and a few comonents. The schematic for the Teensy ++ 2.0 has two crystal oscillators and a voltage regulator. I assume the oscillator in gray and the voltage regulator could be dropped maybe? I dont even have a playstation, (although ive started looking). I really just want to see if i can get involved in the action. Maybe im addicted to solder fumes. EDIT: I just had another look at the schematic and read the text. Looks like the components in gray are optional and arent shipped on the board, I didnt spot that first time.

Yes, the one regulator is for running the board at 3v, and the second oscillator is for timer2. Neither of which are needed for this.

Ok, save you guys a bunch of trouble. Just buy a Blackcat USB. (read about it at http://sbhacker.net) $40 or cheaper in larger lots! Works Great. Back to playing on my PS3! Or see you all over at: http://psx-scene.com

How about later on if I replace HDD or just reformat the HDD, then I can do FW update? If you really want to keep 3.15 at the moment.

Good to know! As for staying in 3.15, seems I'm gonna keep waiting, only 2 ps3, and using the device in my only PSN console would not be wise for now.

Does anyone know the technical aspects of this hack? All I have picked up so far is that it uses a buffer overflow to get executable code into memory? Is it easily patchable to prevent the same method being used again in future FW revisions? I suspect we will end up in the same situation as the xbox where we will be hunting endlessly for PS3's that are below a certain firmware revision.
I originally hoped that this would require a hardware fix to prevent, especially when I read that it was a copy of a sony dongle (which turned out to be BS) but the more i read about the method the less likely this seems. Maybe Sony will even get it patched before the hack becomes common place.

I have some cypress EZ-USB FX2 dev kits on hand. But too bad that I figured out it is impossible to port the psgroove to EZUSB. the USB device address can't be changed by the firmware on the fly. so it's impossible to emulate multiple USB devices via one EZUSB MCU. damn cypress....
