Hi,

Few days ago I bought new xbox 250gb FF special edition and in order to modify it I started to read until I found my DVD version is the 9 series which required a soldering skills, so I took it to a guy to modify it, and he did but I found that he was a scammer also so I can't contact him any more, anyway, my question is when I try to test the xbox with a backups I was able to play old games but I wasn't able to play a game like toy story 3, the xbox ask me for update, and I heard that updating it will prevent modifying the dashbord if I wanted to do in the future, so again my question, I wasn't able to play the new game because the guy didn't modify my DVD drive well or I must do an update, and if I must do the update does it hurt?

Thanks for help in advance,

Wrong section.
Also, a few minutes of reading would've answered this.. the console is not exploitable in the first place, there's no way to "modify the dashboard" on it.

He's a scammer because the game asked you to update?  I think I missed something in there.

The console is expoitable because its the Final Fantasy Bundle which is the old console. You will find out that the update will need to be done to play the game but at a guess your console is not jtaggable so you may as well run the update!! If older games are working then it will be fine and you just have to run the update then it wont ask you anymore

When a 360 is referred to as exploitable, it is usually understood to mean exploitable by the JTAG hack, which that console is not.

Can the dvd-rom be modded to run burned games, yes.  It already is as per the first post.

There's nothing wrong.  Take the update, play your games, move along.

Thanks to all shared with my post, I took the update from the game itself and I was able to play.

When I asked about modifying the dashbord I read that this is the way to play game files from the hard drive.

Yeah. JTAG hack. Not on your console.

One more question, do I need my drive files in case if I need to modify it again in the future?

It always a good idea to keep those.  If you updated the firmware again, it would save you step of dumping the firmware/key again.  Also, if your drive fails suddenly, you're safe having your key.

Remember, if your drive ever fails/bricks in a way that you can't retrieve your key, you'll never be able to play a 360 game again.

Thanks neonpolaris, but if my xbox is still working and I need to update the sw, do I still be able to retreive the key? and since my drive is 9 series and it required cut traces and soldering do I need to do that if only I want to read the drive and know the key?

You need to do that only to read the drive, in fact. The flashing doesn't require all that cutting and soldering. But without reading it first, you have nothing to flash it with.
