I reckon there should be a system in place where everyone that is "Smart" enough to post in technical threads is assigned to a group.
I'm not too "in the know" when it comes to 360 hacking, etc, hence I don't clutter up technical threads with my stupid questions.
Hell, anything I need to know has basically been answered somewhere between here and XS and some of the other good 360 sites.

It is just crazy how every man and his dog posts their stupid questions and add to the clutter in the technical threads.
Even if someone wanted to post in the technical threads and wasn't part of the allowed group the post could go to the mods who say yay or nay before it even makes it onto the site.
If a few particular people are making useful posts regularly they could be assigned to the allowed group.

Just my two cents. I love reading the technical threads and is pretty much the only part of the site I read, just to keep in touch with what is coming up.
But when a thread that should be 5 pages is 30 pages because it's so full of every random post thrown in there it is a tad frustrating.
A good example is the PIC18F2455 based programmer thread that was 25 odd pages long. Eventually someone cut it down to like 4.

Thought I would just put this out there and see what people thought.

Cheers

your right on both parts spi/pic section and tech section...but SMF(forums) is based on sorting out by your rank below your nick(post count) and this means the admin would have to level up on them and it's not a easy thing to do ....that's alot of members to sort....
and some members post in the correct place that have less rank(post count to rank up)...so leveling up (hiding the forum for that level) wouldn't be fair...yet again that's a lot of users to sort...

nice idea but for the pic/spi one it best to just bump the main dl for the flasher(s)/boot stuff to the end(last post) here and there...
unless the admin has something in mind ?

they need to enforce old rules. post $#!t and get banned, no more noob favors, coz lately it's hell with the noobs cramming this forum with retard questions posted in the wrong section.. simple as that..

i might even have to start worrying then

there's no need for these people to be here : they can post their $#!t in those retarded xbox-scene forums, coz seriously have you ever seen those? have you ever been able to find something you're looking for there? all sections are cluttered with noob posts.. Xbox-scene is the place for them to go.. not here

everyday its becoming more and more like xbox-scene... a resort for the lazy uneducated ones to spam their retardness onto this forum where ever and whenever they feel like doing so.... they're so lazy and stupid they don't even read the sub-board context

There's no way to give posting rights to specific threads. And honestly, if I want micromanagment, I'll play The Sims or something.

The problem is that people (including me when i posted for the first couple of times and I am sorry for that) here, dont see that this here is a place for smart people, who would like to discuss technical stuff only.

Honestly i dont remember if it is clearly stated when you register to the board (but i guess it is).
Maybe add a (2nd?) security question when people register and make them type something like this:

Quote
"This forum is for technical discussion only! For newest firmware, dump questions etc. go to xbox-scene or get a permanent ban here, your choice."

Add the capital letters and the commata and it will be impossible for some people to register  Tongue

sounds like an idea that dak, make them write it out to the letter, all punctuations etc
(but then i would imagine all they would do it copy/paste and not even read it !!, but th eidea is there!)

i do agree that it is getting more an more like xbox-scene round here ! Sad which is ashame,
as love just reading all the tech posts (i rarely post, as if ya read you dont need to !)

Well personally I think the test should be (for the whole forum not just the technical ones)  if anyone asks for a "tut" or uses more then one smiley per post  then there should be an instant ban  . . .

Well you could work with a kind of ranking system, for ranking posts from say -2 to +2 on let's say "usefullness".
Then you could filter the thread for only the messages you want to see.

And i need to use a lot of smileys to express my feelings you know Angry

Again, this is SMF, not VBulletin.
Such mods are impossible to accomplish, without heavily modifying the forum software itself.

Or we could just give the smart people the right to remove posts in the technical section so we can continue discussions without talking about getting dvd keys or stupid $#!t like that.

1. If it ain't broke, don't fix it
2. When all else fails, RTFM
3. "Assumption" is the mother of all f***-ups
4. Write it down, if you don't, it's like it never happened....
