i have had this as well i changed some magic files on my cd and had the wmv re looping with m.s logo and the loading screen then back to logo and so on

also i have had the box in a state where it is just black screen go back to dash and it has gone the background was there but no info just blank i could still launch the disc but as soon as i went back it was still  blank orange back ground same with media and games but the live tab  still poped out  when i pressed select

and just a small note i changed my own backedup  xex with my own demo xex and guess what the intro movie did not play but all the conetent was there it played only the demo level but the only thing i changed on the disc was the xex

so i backed up my g*me  swaped xex with demo xex intro wmv  did not play but demo level did also when i got to the end of level it would not let me finsh it  sort of blocked the exit if you know what i mean like could not find the last bit of data or exit sceen

and it never give me dirty disc or region error

sorry if i went a bit off topic just still testing all route and just passing info to help a wee bit

That was a bit confusing, or maybe I'm just not awake quite yet. You replaced the King Kong RETAIL executable from a backup with the King Kong executable from the demo disc? Then burnt the entire backup with the only difference being the demo executable and it ran the demo levels?

 i used kameo and yes just swaped the xex
