Nice idea on using the DVD case, I'd never considered using the plastic from one of those in a project.. I've got loads of empty cases lying around as well, will have to keep them in mind for future projects Smiley

It would make sense if the rear USB port is actually powered, as that's where the Wireless Network Adapter plugs into. I'd imagine that must draw a fair amount of current in order to do WiFi transmissions.

The DVD case was the only piece of 1mm thick household plastic I could find that suited my purpose Wink it's flexible and nicely bends back into it's original shape.

Although I've een quite busy (always am Wink except at work atm) I found some time to roughly cut the parts for the back of the switch yesterday and stack them together to give you an idea what I came up with.

As you can see the "cross" part lies in the slots of the acrylic panel and won't be glued onto it, this way it bends nicely when the button is pressed.

The square shaped piece will be glued to the acrylic so the "cross" part will stay in it's place.

a little piece of plastic from the CD player will be glued onto the "cross" part and press the power-microswitch on the RF board

p.s. One more thing about the DVD box plastic: Beware that this is plastic no 5 (polypropylene) and can't be glued with most standard plastic glues, overhere in the Netherlands "Pattex" has a glue type (rapid) for it which consists of 2 elements: A primer for the surface and the glue itself.

p.p.s. here's a new design sketch:

Not really pciture worthy, but wanted to let you know that I assembled the power button completely last weekend and it works like a charm Cheesy It's in te exact right spot and it nicely aligns with the console.

The ROL works good as well, because it's at about 5-20mm deep it can't be seen from all angles, but it looks quite nice Cheesy

A real relief, because the little bugger took me a lot more time than expected!

Next to that I've modded the original CD-player's power button so it's "non latching" and I can use it as eject button.

Next step: USB-ports and when those are done smoothing out all unused holes etc.

It's been a while since I posted here due to our wedding coming up in a few weeks.

I have been doing some work though and the remodeling of the front panel is finished except for the usb ports (which will be a seperate panel mounted behind the front panel) and primed.

For now that's the status of this project, I'll pick it up again after our honeymoon and all your questions will get answered during the progress!

Kudos on the acrylic piece, and actually the rest of your implementation of the xbox power button. When I was reading the first parts of your post, I thought to myself, "Yeah, good luck with that STUPID xbox power button- it's a real B*$&# ". When I saw the picture of your acrylic part, I was like, "Oh, well then- if he's gonna do things the RIGHT way and all, then I don't suppose it'll be much trouble..."

Glad to hear that the button worked perfectly. As it should, right?
