Has anybody tried this ?
My Connectivity kit didn't come today, so I was gonna go outand buy the stuff required to attempt the slax method, but I noticed that it mainly supports si3112 etc ?
I have an onboard VIA VT8237
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I have same chipset as well. It didn't work, even after ModeB with wire trick. Had to use another mb with connectivity kit.

Well I'm gonna have to anyway, since my nearest Maplins has closed down, so I couldn't get hold of anything to ground the xbox and the pc together with, hopefully the kit should be here tomorrow anyway.

I have the same chipset, slax didn't work, cross wire was perfect. Just read geebee's pdf where it's perfectly described. Connectivity Kit is senseless in my opinion, it's cheap to achive with the crosswire thing.

SLAX MODE B ON VIA CHIPSETS ---------------------------------------------
Go into Adv. BIOS menu, make sure SATA is set to Non-Raid, Go into Drive BIOS menu, make sure both ports of SATA is set to NOT INSTALLED (instead of AUTO) Of course make sure it is STILL ENABLED (just not AUTO) Plug the cable into second port (SATA2 - sec.) not (SATA1 - pri.) Turn on PC Wait until it starts doing the memory test Turn on 360 Boot into the Slax up into the login prompt 46 drives will NOT flash the LED 47 drives will starting blinking the LED like crazy Press RESET on front case (not Ctrl-Alt-Del) If it freezes on the Windows XP loading screen, press EJECT on the 360 If drive does not appear on the Device Manager after 4 seconds, right click on SATA, and pick SCAN for Hardware Changes.

It's also extremely dangerous with the crosswire, the connectivity kit is a good buy, plus it lets you hook your hd up to usb, for £20, I'm not complaining. I just hate waiting for stuff to be delivered, that's all. And thanks for the guide garyopa, I'm sure it will definitely be useful.

My mothboard I used myself is a Asus (Asrock) P4VM800 with the VIA chipset and I have always been able to get into ModeB with no problems using the Slax disc.
I had a problem earlier this week when testing the 46 firmware, I was doing it like 10 times in a row with no modeB and found out that the problem was the RED SATA cable that came with my motherboard.
Those SATA cables break easy, the thin wires inside will crack and loose contact after a while of unplugging bending them to get into the 360 case, etc.

I see no reason why the Xecutor kit would fail, as it uses the same system as the cross wire trick but in a safer way.
But people will always fail ways to "kill" systems, forgoting to turn off power on PC when pulling in drives. Plugging in cables upside-down. Drinking too many beers beforing opening their 360.
But I still don't see why the Xecutor kit would fail.

Well it didn't work, I connected it all up last night as per the faq and got a red led on the adaptor, but the drive wouldn't eject, and windows wouldn't recognise it.
I made sure that Sata and not Raid was selected in the system bios and tried it in both ports, and it came up with nothing, and I know the drive was OK because it worked fine when I reassembled the xbox.

Thanks a lot for this! Was struggling with my VIA chipset. Here's exactly what I did (since it's ever so slightly different due to my BIOS): Go into BIOS menu, make sure SATA is set to Non-Raid (use garyopa's tips about BIOS if you're BIOS has those options, if not, don't worry) Plug the 360 drive into the second SATA port. Turn on the PC and hit F11 to get the boot option menu to come up Turn on the 360 Boot from the Slax CD Wait until the login prompt comes up At this point the LED in the middle of the ring of light might start blinking, it did on my 46D, but as garyopa said it may not blink If you want reasurance it worked login with "root" "toor" and use the command "dmesg | grep HL" if nothing comes up, it didn't work, else it did Hit the reboot button on the PC Go into Windows Use XTRM-HITACHI-V1R5 with "flash {drive letter}" Happy flashing!
